GH2 GH3 coming soon?

Great find, but I still think that the GH2 with the hack is an amazing camera. Hopefully GH3 will be better.

GH2 in any form has either been no longer listed, or shown as no longer available/discontinued, at major Canadian online retailers for over a month, no announcement of replacement model. Strange I think.

I'm hopeful that the GH3 rumors are fulfilled I'd really like to see higher res displays, and really like to see a 12-35 kit similarly priced to the 14-140 kit. Seems like everything is dependent on what's next. I'd love to able to justify buying into the voitlander lenses, but without knowing what is going on with the next version of Af100, or any guarantee of a shallow flange mount on BlackMagic, it is hard. As great as the Hack footage looks in the right hands, I can't see it being my A-cam.

I've seen it happen before where a consumer model was too good, and either got dumbed down, or dropped completely for the next season. The G5 is shipping with 60p, which is all the Japanese seem to care about. 24p is a relatively small niche that may not be supported. Who knows.

My guess it they stopped selling the 14-140 to leave room for the X series lens on the market.

The silver was a bust as there weren't enough retro still shooters buying a GH2. Also compared to the new Oly, a GH2 wasn't retro looking at all. I wouldn't be at all surprised if we learned Panny quit building silver a year ago already.

The 14-140 kits were sold and now most everyone who wants a 14-140 leans already has at least one. So those kits most likely have been dogs in the lineup which is why they got thinned too. As others have mentioned, Panny has a lot on its plate with the latest and still unannounced lenses it has in the channels. I would think they have enough 14-140 for the time being and need their manufacturing capacity for the latest lenses that no one can get.

As far as the GH3 coming soon, sure, it will be announced at Photokina just like the GH1 and GH2 were. Unless you are new to Panny US distribution issues, you already know it won't be readily available for many months after that. Panny announced the GH2 in Oct 2010 but was still building out GH1s well into 2011.

"It has been a very long time between drinks for poor old Panasonic's GH range. It's about time for an update, and it's likely that the GH3 will be announced before Photokina. Current speculation includes the addition of a battery grip, improvements to AF speed and weather sealing.

...and that's the time to get a gh2 ! I hope they do the same facebook deal . The gh1 was $375 w/lens ! They'll probably offer it bodyonly for somewhere near that . Saving my pennies !

well if you can wait for the firesale of gh2's that are somehow not available anyway (contradiction much) than do so (well yes, maybe some new stuff will be delivered soon instead of simply phasing out the cam). But before the gh3 will be "really" much better than the gh2, it needs a hack. We had this situation with the gh13 vs gh2. So if they do sell the gh in OCT2012 Or NOV, it'll be another 2-3 Months, maybe more till the cam will be hacked and some more time till they find out how to properly manipulated the stat. So in 6-9 Months, you wanna switch. And the great thign is that the gh2 will then be the perfect b cam. So go buy one now ^^

I am betting the GH3 will be debuted at Photokina, but it won't be what everyone wants. It might have weather sealing and 1080p60, maybe even 720p120 like the new FZ/LX series. I doubt it will have what I want the most, a global shutter, and clean 10b 4:2:2 over HDMI.

I wouldn't speculate, For all we know the gh3 will be a dumbed down gh2 thats unhackable. Nothing in this market suprises me anymore.

From an unnamed source, about a future announcement...

-----
Tierra del Fuego, WNO. In a surprise move today, Panasonic Consumer Electronics announced canceling all future GH camera models of the Lumix line, and recalling all GH-1 and GH-2 models. An unnamed source indicates that these cameras were giving AF100 camera line 'too much competition' and hurting sales of the bloated and overpriced Panasonic Professional offering, after a series of independent industry playoffs showed the capabilities of the GH series matched or exceeded the more expensive camera. There were reports of a board meeting 'shootout' which required SWAT action on the part of the police, just prior to this announcement.

$750 to $5,000 is quite a jump just to get the proper form factor here. I'd have no trouble believing the profit margin on the AF100 is significantly higher (percentage-wise, not in dollars)) than the GH2.

Don't know about in the States, but brand new AF101's are available for under £2,200 (US$3,400ish) including tax here in the UK, so the price difference isn't that great - especially once you start souping up the GH2 to match the AF101's specs (sound, ND's, peaking, zebra etc).

At B&H in Manhattan, the AF100 goes for $4795, while the GH2 is currently going for $700 (both sans lens).

It just seems a very big jump to me.

"Offering a capacity of 64GB and a sustained read/write transfer speeds of 168MB/s (actual speed), XQD S Series outpaces the maximum interface speed limit of Compact Flash cards (167 MB/s)."

There's my new 'wish' for the GH3. Forget about SD cards, XQD is the new King of the Hill.

Interesting point, but SD cards are so readily available and cheap. XQD sound like specialty cards. I don't know if it makes sense to dumb SD as a medium.

I was talking to a guy today and he says the GH3 is really going to be the all new GN1, a rebadged Nikon D90 that retails for $299 !!!

A GH3 would feel rather pointless, until it's hacked. I probably won't be purchasing another DSLR when I finally get my BMCC. The GH2 will always remain one of my favorite cameras, and will be my go-to cam for everything I can't do with the BMCC.

If 12-35x currently goes for about 1100-1200$ how much do you think the gh3 kit w that lens will cost?
