I know Many many people who payed $1500+ for a Canon 7d.... No way in the world can anyone tell me that it has better quality than a GH2 let alone a GH3..... $1200 is an excellent price for what it does.

The Canon 7d is a much better stills camera, which is what it's main function should be in the first place.

How will the GH3 benefit me,all my GH2 edited footage goes on BLU RAY,the GH3 may have 50/60P but that is is not BD compatable !
The GH2 can take good footage but the worst thing is the fact it still had moire/aliasing,how some say it does not baffles me,to get moire aliasing free footage a tripod or good brace and panning kept to minimum is required for me anyway,24p is worst ,i use 25P HBR pal which is better but for the least moire aliasing its 1080i but then resolution is lost, the body erganomics may well be better on the GH3 but the overriding gain would have to no moire aliasing.

Which has nothing to do with video which is what we are talking about..... Many many people buy/bought a 7d strictly for video. Also film cameras at first where photo cameras, so please understand where film began.....
/that discussion

Can't wait till later today for the GH3 announcement!

Don't get me wrong, what I intended to say, was that many people would probably prefer to buy a 7d for what it offers as a whole, vs the GH2.
And I believe that there is a much larger group of potential Canon customers coming from the field of photography, compared to videographers opting for one vs the other. (This is why many people prefer to pay $1500+ for the 7d).

That said, the gh3 appears to be a very interesting product for videographers. Together with Sony, Panasonic is pushing the competition further and this is good for consumers.

Apologies if this has already been posted:

Panasonic US is accepting pre-orders for the GH3 direct from them "when available" for $1,299.99 for the body-only configuration (no lens)
.

Historical note: Buying direct from Panasonic US has been a hit or miss proposition in the past. I've had good luck with them myself, but many other folks have had nightmare experiences. Also, ordering from Panasonic US directly is no guarantee of receiving a camera or accessory sooner than buying from a dealer. Just a heads-up and a caution. YMMV.

I seem to recall that Amazon and BH never ended up shipping very early when the GH1 or GH2s were released. Otherwise it would be a better buy since you'd avoid tax (~$104 for me in Atlanta Georgia). Samy's seemed to have received an early batch when I ordered my first GH1, but they aren't accepting preorders yet... so I got in line over at Panasonic Direct!

I know it's been hit or miss a little with Panny Direct, but I do think they'll ship before anyone else based on previous releases.

UPDATE: Looks like Panasonic Charges your credit card immediately btw. BH Photo typically has done this in the past for pre-orders as well. Amazon charges when it ships...

Hmmm panasonic camera gear will sell for less then list price when it hits the streets, but that might be an asia thing. I got my GH2 right when it came out for a descount. People in the US might have to pay the List price.

I expect the gray-market price for the camera will be around 1k-900 bucks but with no warranty and the UI will be Japanese/Chinese. The 12-35mm kit lens is going to be a hot item. Sellers will split them up and it may cause the GH3 to sell lower. We will see.

Also, if you or a immediate family member are an employee of a major US company, your employer may have an "affiliate" or corporate purchase arrangement with Panasonic. If so, you may be able to get a discount by buying a GH3 or Panasonic accessories through that program.

However, if you go this route, remember that you are buying from Panasonic US "direct", so the same cautions apply as in my previous post: I've had good luck buying direct from Panasonic US, but several people have posted here on DVXuser in the past few years who had absolutely awful experiences with them. So, YMMV. Cheers.

Does anyone know when the GH3 will ship? I can't find this info anywhere and calling Panasonic is getting me nowhere.

November is on the Wex website, how reliable that is I don't know.
As reliable as the Japanese and Chinese relations are today. I would expect delays as the Lumix lines are assembled in China. China today launched economic war against Japan.

Yeah, I bought my GH2 for $670 through that program almost two years ago. Unfortunatley at the moment it shows the GH-3 at retail price. I assume that will go down at least 30% at some point. I can wait. :)

Same here about buying my GH2, but I'm nowhere near as patient as you on the GH3. The GH2 was my "gateway drug" into video on DSLR/Ms, and now that I own a bunch of lenses for it, I don't think I can wait!
