GH3 and Tablet for Monitor

After my disastrous experience with the Lilliput 9.7 monitor, I've resolved that when I buy my gh3 next month I'll be buying a 7" tablet with it as a field monitor. Seems a no-brainer to me. The tablet can do most of the core things a field monitor can do, then so many things it can't.

The DMC-GH3 integrates a built-in Wi-Fi® module for wireless connectivity (IEEE 802.11 b/g/n) to expand shooting possibility. A smartphone or a tablet can be used as a remote controller and a remote monitor.

It doesn't work that way.

You can get an image over wifi for framing but once you hit record you lose live-view.

Hopefully that is a simple firmware fix.

Its been well discussed over the past 3 months, the concensus of opinion is that live wifi video is not something that is likely to be enabled with firmware. Time will tell, but in the meantime there are a lot of wired monitor choices.

Hi, although I personally know of someone with a gh2 who's had great success with the 5" Lilliput, I could not get the 7" or 9.7" to generate playback. It rendered the live feed beautifully, but when I hit playback my gh2 with displayed the message "TV output in session" on its lcd screen and nothing would appear on the Lilliput.

Contacted Tech support and a Chinese woman assured me it was simply a setting in my gh2 that needed to be changed. I waited a week for her to tell me which setting but neither she nor her tech department knew. She then asked me a lot of questions about the gh2. I asked her hadn't they tested the monitor on the gh2 and she replied they can't afford to test the monitor on every camera.

Draw your own conclusions. I just sent it back. The postage was $16 plus $5 to insure.

Thanks for your input. I might give it a try of nothing of note appears at NAB. Great price if the image is nice. One Question, will it stay in 16x9 mode for good once you set it 16x9? Thanks

I would like to say that I've had great success with my Lilliput 7" 5D-II. No issues, and fairly good color reproduction, and definitely sharp as a tack. Focus is much easier. The focus peaking isn't the best (it's too liberal with what it highlights, and will peak the edges of things that aren't quite in focus, with no adjustment for it that I can see) but it has worked very reliably for me over the last year.

I recently have been reading about the "TV Output" message. I get that message on my LCD, but the image shows up on my screen instead during playback. I wish it did both. Does it do both for some people? I just assumed that was the way that the camera was built. I also understand that Ricland was having the issue of nothing showing up on the screen. To you, ricland, I'm almost sure you would have tried this, but did you try designating 720p or 1080i for the HDMI resolution on the GH2?

I haven't had to. Auto works fine on my Lilliput 5D-II, but figured I'd ask.
