GH2 GH3/12-35/35-100 Wished Pricing

Agreed. The GH's are not meant to be professional video cameras and are not priced or marketed to professional video users. A G-camera with clean HDMI out and a $1,000 price increase would be an entirely new class of G-camera. I bought a GH2 because it's price/features ratio was right for me. A "GH3" at double the price and completely different feature-set would not the the same price/features ratio and thus I would not be interested. Now, if they included it for free without compromising other features, great! I wouldn't stop them. I'd also never use that feature, but if it didn't get in my way and some people found it useful then I wouldn't mind it being there.

I never said I thought the GH3 should get a $1000 price increase! Believe me, I still want it to come in at the same price as the GH2. :) Also, I'm not knocking the GH2 hack in any way. What Vitaly has done is incredible, and the footage it produces is outstanding (especially considering it's free!!!) I'd just love it if the HDMI out were clean and usable with an external recorder.

But the question still stands: What improvements will the GH3 include if not 1080/60p and clean 4:2:2 HDMI output?

I don't really care about the GH3, but what I desperately want is for the 35-100 f/2.8 constant aperture lens to be less than $1,000. I don't know how realistic that is, but that's what I want. ;)

Without knowing the exact details of all of these products, I think it`s impossible to try and hang a price tag on them...

I am hoping that the new zooms come in around the $1,500 price range, have a fast constant F-stop, are parfocal, and operate smoothly.

For the GH-3 body, I would be willing to pay up to $2,000 for it depending on the features it brings to the table. I would love a better sensor with wider dynamic range, less noise in low-light, and a global shutter would be killer.

I guess we'll see, but I wouldn't hold my breath. If the GH3 had better low light performance and enough time passed for the hack to come out for it, that would be enough to upgrade even without 1080p60 and 4:2:2

Ignoring the GH3, I'm looking most forward to the 12-35mm if it is f2.8 or lower. Definitely be worth the investment.

+1 for the zoom price and specs but I'd add minimal beathing as is possible for that price tag. Dont' care much about the GH3 as I'm probably gonna skip a generation (unless major breakthroughs are put into the new body, gh2 with the hack and AF100 are perfect for my current needs) ; great zoom lenses are much more important IMO, especially the constant aperture and smooth focus / zoom rings.

If Panasonic really wants m43 to be taken seriously by pros, they also gotta get some great glass to compete against Canon's, not just new bodies or primes. Olympus and Panasonic keep repeating they're commited to micro four thirds and yes, pro zooms probably take a lot of time to R&D, but we've yet to see more than lenses roadmaps and announcements from either manufacturer...

Because, if they don't offer 1080/60p and clean 4:2:2 HDMI output, what else would they offer to make me want to upgrade?

weather sealed body for..... weather sealed lenses

... Really?

We can start with:
Sensitivity
Dynamic range/highlight retention
Color tonality

Then start working on changes to the body itself (EVF and especially LCD, speed, weather-sealing, construction, etc.)

I love my GH2 and wouldn't trade it in for any of its competitors but there's no point in pretending that beyond a framerate and HDMI option it can't be improved...

Agreed. I'd like to see some fixes to the GH2 aside from 4:2:2 and 60p. For example the color shift on record....annoying as hell

But those Olympus lenses are 2.0 throughout the range. I have both and I really like the color rendition from them, not to mention they are the fastest zooms available.

Its quite hard for me to even save $1K much less lenses and other gear.
i hate to be an a-hole here. but if you cant comfortably drop $1000 for a camera. you need to be concentrating more on your finances than the latest and greatest camera...

Oh, I agree that there's definitely room for improvement, especially in all the areas you mentioned. But, for me, a simple increase in sensitivity or LCD resolution will not be enough to get me to upgrade from my GH2 to a GH3. To others it very well might be enough, but it's going to take at least 1080/60p and clean HDMI 4:2:2 output for me to lay down another $1000, when the GH2 with the hack already provides such high quality imagery.

Lol I totally get you.
I am in fact concentrating on finances.
Currently in school doing a degree program though so finances are pretty decided already.

If they increased DR and ISO by two stops, and tonal range and color sensitivity by at least two bits, fixed the LCD color shift and at least doubled it's resolution, improved the EVF to be at least as good or better than the one in the new Sony's, increased it's speed to 7+ fps, gave it weather-sealing and sturdier construction, but left out 1080p60 and HDMI-out was only 4:2:0 and sold it for $1000 body-only you would not want to buy it?
