GH2-What I havn't read on the forum

Got my GH2 three days ago, and played with it a bit.
Until now I used GH1 and later on the GH13, Mostly for nature , and also for travel and home videos.
This few things are probably known to owners , but are new to me as they are not mentioned on the forum (might be hidden somewhere), others are just my opinion.

While ETC is activated the live view on LCD/EVF is of such a lower resolution that it can't be used for focusing !! At all !!
You need to use the manual assist (good for stationary subjects) or start shooting, then refocus and later on cut the beginning while editing. Bad !

720p60/50 17mbps is good as GH1 and not as GH13 ! So for me, it would be unusable. For others I don't know.

This was mentioned before but I have different opinion from reviewers thus far.
The red cinema button is now placed on top near the shutter button.

Now, if you are using the camera in a still photo style on eye level, that is OK, because you can use both thumb (rear dial) and the finger (motion picture button) simultaneously . But, hey, you also can use the shutter button for that. So that is a waste.

On the GH1 the placement was very good for eye level shooting but better than that for chest level shooting (please try, putting elbows against lower chest ), in that case thumb for shooting and finger on dial wheel . Genius!
This is the only option that enables you to go from low level to high level (above head) without interrupting the shoot (left hand thumb and finger on corners of open LCD , so it is always directed towards your eyes).

Back to GH2 , I can shoot belly level, but in that case the thumb is on top and the rear dial is left unattended.

In what way is the 50 17mbps not good enough, pesonaly i bemoan the lack of pal 25P 1920X1080, There is a 24P cinema mode which is the highest leval of recording but i personaly dislike it as that look is not to my liking.

Hi flinty, this is not about what I like or not on GH2 or what I would like it to be. It is about the things that were not mentioned and I think others might be interested to know.
I live in a PAL country and I haven't decided to cry or lough on the stupidity of omitting 25p (I think they lost 20%-30% of potential buyers).
As for 720p50/60 , look here.720pGH1a.jpg720pGH1b.jpg720pGH2.jpg

The grass is from GH2 600mm , the eagles are GH1 800mm un hacked, and everything is on the move.

Edit:
I can see that one can't judge those examples as they are small sized, but from the grass test, the GH2 720p50/60 will not handle well the Eagle situation.

Haha...that's exactly how I feel. Finally had a chance to buy a GH2 today in Singapore (Australia is still waiting...). Got as far as pulling out the credit card...then decided I really don't need the 24p pull down BS. If it had 25p I would have bought two on the spot.

Yeah, but I should imagine they will be very reluctant to offer a firmware upgrade, since that's what Vitally etc. are waiting for/need in order to do a hack, which would be good for various reasons.

I should imagine a PAL only version will come eventually, as opposed to a firmware upgrade. Sucky, but wow, do their video division NOT want another GH13 situation. I should imagine it's a bit political between the two parts of the company.

Then it would have made more sense for them to pack in all the features (e.g. 25p) in the initial release...if the logic (!) is to avoid a Firmware update. Don't see how that's possible though since minor improvements & operating code upgrades are almost inevitable during the production life of any complex camera.

Providing 25p and a clean HDMI out would have been beneficial for Panasonic since the people who buy an AF100 would also be likely to buy one or two GH2 bodies as B cameras...the lenses are the same. I really don't think that providing the minimum features people require for the GH2 would have diminished sales of the AF100...probably the opposite. If it had clean HDMI out then really no need for a hack...just buy a Nanoflash or similar...and anyway, the AVCHD codec has been improved.

I quess those not in PAL land just don't realise just how desirable, necessary and easy to work with 25p is...
