This isn't a competition of cameras. These were the cameras I had to shoot this video. I hard mounted the iphone and gopro and used a cheap stabilizer to do the handheld stuff with the GH2 - 20mm lecia ( 44mbit hack cbrandon, i think)
The Good
* I got two other camera angles to edit with by hard mounting the iphone and gopro cameras. Three shots were better than one.
* Mounting the iphone on the guys guitar not only got another angle but actually changed the performance as the crowd became interactive with it in shots you'll see in this clip and lots of times through out the rest of the parade. I would have preferred to shoot with the HD camera on the other side of the iphone but its magic when people saw there own faces in the phone as they watched the performer.
The Bad
* GH2 was 24p, Iphone was 30p, Go Pro was 25P, This was a nightmare to sync. If I could do it over I would have shot everything 30p. It wouldn't have that 24p filmic cadence but... it wouldn't have been the editing nightmare.
* The gopro had some kind of smear on the plastic lens protector... it wasn't noticeable to externally but only after I saw the footage did I notice the huge distortion it caused... lesson learned - always test the output of that camera before you shoot since it has no viewfinder.
