GH2 video quality query...

Because my point of view is rarely expressed - that is the professional indifference over these kinds of juvenile discussions. While you guys roll in the mud squabbling about one $1000 cam over another, those that don't are just basically shaking there head thinking my god what silly billy's.

Its also a damned well valid response to call out on parochial discussion - and i don't have to justify it either thank you very much... It is parochial if when people ask about a camera that responses crediting there 'looks' or 'mojos' hehe are dismissed by those getting there knickers in a twist over 'bit rates' and 'xyz cpu factors.' They are inferred to be almost stupid for not following the same Zealotry as some who've obviously just made there purchase decision.... So if you don't like my opinion why don't you skip it - as that might be an idea of, smart intelligence otherwise you can eat my sound advice too ;)

... Its a pointless exercise where the only folks asking for advice on what to buy, are the ones that already know what they want, but just seek further justification and so forth. Further more and finally, if these folks only knew how ridiculous they appear to actual pro's who do not give a feck about it...

Please don't put such Pointless conclusions of yourself.
All folks who question in this forum get perfect answers or at least a Proper way of thought, from the great pro's here.
There are more experienced pro's 'than you' who are always ready to help the newbies into there Problems.

If I have GH1, I would probably talk more about GH1, since I don't have canon.
That doesn't mean I hate canon. And if someone's comparing, it's their personal view based on their situation.

If you think these newbies appear ridiculous asking questions, then you are probably not a Pro here.
And if you still think yourself as an Intelligent Great pro, then you must first learn how to speak in Forum from the Veteran Pro's here.
And more greatly, Mods will advise you the same.

Sorry for hard words.

I HAVE ABSOLUTELY no problem with people asking questions?!? There is nothing wrong with that whatsoever and neither was i criticsing that whatsoever. As a forum we should be here to help our fellow filmmakers, to hone and develop talent and to work together in a positive fashion. That is the fraternity of filmmaking.

So you don't need to apolagise for harsh words, i actually agree with your position and agree too that anyone calling themselves a pro criticising so called 'newbies' for asking questions is certainly not acting professionally. What i am criticising is the negative tone of debate over tiny issues/differences which are magnified by those who are so desperate to justify there purchasing decision, that various dissenting views are ridiculed or made to sound stupid. If my statement confused you on my position (that you quoted) apolagies!

I joked about pros often ignoring the debates which consist of new purchasers arguing over comparable cameras, on trivial 'subjective'/egostical/argumentative hyperbole laden differences. That might not be the opinion of someone concerned over that triviality... but there are some, many i think, who are exhausted at the tone of these 'debates' or 'comparisons'.

That is my point exttreem - hope that clarifies, as for your offensive/personal end statement (would you believe i actually provide free training to cam ops in my community, did over 50 workshops for free... so how about you consider the, 'advice of mods' before making such a personal and unfounded critique of me?

Technical discussion is a NATURAL part of discourse here, it is a filmmaking forum, what shouldn't be a natural part of discourse is the negative hyping against opinions or types of opinions just because they don't abide with the latest release.... We've seen it over and over, from the gh1 vs this to the hvx vs that... Its not the technical tests that bother me, its the attitudes.

Its not an issue thats going to be answered or resolved in a thread i guess :)

Talking about people 'justifying there purchasing decisions', normal psychology is that if someone have bought a Camera, he have to satisfy himself that he has invested in a Good camera, even if he have figured out some negatives, otherwise he will have to regret it. And hence, some or many negatives of other cameras are put in front, against their investment.

In other words, he have to find and focus on the Positives of his Camera.

Yeah your right exttreem, i think that becomes normal psychology because we rarely challenge an arena of discussion that places cameras as 'winners or losers' - i mean look at the marketing hype, how it plays filmmakers into buying and forever upgrading, or providing us with ammo to challenge rival purchasers over the wisdom of there decision! Often with some microwaved marketing fact - or some extreme variable there product is designed to excel in - rather than the very reason that inspired them to buy a camera in the first place, to make films - to tell stories.

I understand that legitimate technical discussion is vital, im not against that or anyone learning - cos hell im learning and the more i learn the more i don't know! I just think that if nobody ever calls out that we're being silly - if there told to just 'skip it' when they dissaprove of the tone of discussion - then we're lost to a kind of chauvinistic battle of superiority that goes unchallenged.

So your completely right in your analysis exttreem, can't we just challenge that 'truth' a little, with a reminder of how stupid it really is. As for the other chaps ardent on discussing the details, again theres nothing wrong with that, but the blooming tone, to someone who is indifferent to either model atm - is just unnecessarily wicked.

I recently stopped worrying about whether or not I have the perfect camera and just started shooting, I may suck but at least I am just shooting and learning. I have a hacked GH1, maybe the GH2 is better, maybe it would be even better to have an HMC150 or whatever. I don't care anymore.

Well, no stupid, further elaborated, it goes like this: For someone who have bought the Camera because of some Positive Points, but later (after buying) he figures out some other Negatives, he still should certainly think that his camera is world's greatest camera, because he have already invested in it. Otherwise, from then, he can't live Happily ever after with that camera.

I think thats the right attitude mtan - beyond the necessary technical tests, and discussions - these things help us learn, and inform us - while stupid my cam is better than yours or - "how the hell can you consider x more important than y - what are u... stupid?" does not!

Exttreem pretty much defines the psychology of the problem, and mtan you define the solution.

And if it sounds obvious that mtan is right... great... but you wouldnt think it sometimes here and its up to us to ensure that the character of these discussions remebers the important value of the subjective over the technical, there legitimate for artists and filmmakers without people being dunced into following one view based on fanboy neurosis.

Ive said my piece anyway, but if i thought i saw someone being bullied a bit, just because they like something less quantifiable than a marketed bit rate or whatever... id say this again.

Anyway im off to make a custom k3 lens for a dslr!

I have seen your name in many discussions in the Panasonic GH2 boards but not very often did you (in this GH1/2 forum) really add something to it (in my view), always setting up Panasonic against Canon. Pick the tool you like and start shooting. You could have made some movies in the time you spend discussing here this month alone. You seem like a very talented/knowledgable guy, so not pun intended. Just my thoughts.

yea lawriejaffe,
it seems on one hand you tell people to go shoot movies,
but on the other hand you yourself spend time endlessly arguing on many threads.

what gives?

Hvxguy:

Your footage of the Doggie and the Bolex is amazing. Deep rich colors that I've never seen from an hdslr before. There's no doubt about it.... the GH2 tromps the t2i... and all other hdslrs.

I've had the t2i for a year... loved the footage the little guy cranks out, but it is now time for a replacement. No regrets owning the t2i.... glad I made the decision to get it rather than the Canon 7D.

Now I can own both the t2i and the GH2 (body) for the price of a single 7D.

True, but this person should be aware of all the Important Facts (that he can't ignore) about his camera. That will always help him sorting any problems. And before buying the camera, he should clearly know what he wants, so that everyone else in forum can help him making decisions.
