GH2 GH2 Shooting Sunrises with Action

I tend to shoot around sunrise and sunsets and due to the type of shooting (self shot fishing), I have to keep the camera going for 10min or longer stretches. The results are forced timelapses of sorts with dramatically changing light where the moment of action I need to capture could happen at any point. I want to make sure exposure and shutter speed is right at all times.

Am I right in thinking the best setting is "S" and let aperture adjust as need be? What about "P" mode? Any better, or do I lose the fixed shutter speed in that setting?

I tried "S" mode and could hear and see aperture changes...would auto ISO with "S" setting be more smooth?

I'm headed out again tomorrow morning and don't want to waste more precious time. Any insight would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

try S with auto iso auto wb. I use it on my flycam nano for exposure changes from indoor to outdoor or vise versa. I can hear it stepping though. Not sure your going to be able to get rid of that

Most of the consensus is to shoot with A - Manuel focus and WB

I use auto-iris all the time for my sunset time-lapse shots. Works great.

On this clip I set the auto iris to underexppose and turned it on and waited. It's part of a larger clip but you can see that it fades down just fine into night. You can even see the landing lights of a plane circle around near the bottom left.

This clip I wanted maximum exposure to capture the bright light from the just set sun to the more saturated colors after it had gone down. If I had a fixed iris on this, I would have missed out of the deeper saturated colors.

These guys even suggest using a mirror to minimise sun blowout
