GH3 GH2 shadow recovery is amazing ... Can the GH3 do this as well?

Sorry for the typo in the thread title, I meant the GH2 :)

I don't know if any of you ever saw this video, but it really surprised me.

Now I wonder if the GH3 (without hack) would be able to pull of the same. Anyone did a test like this?

And what is your opinion on this shadow detail recovery?

Yep, at some point I will be buying a GH3, when it is hacked it will be even more amazing for me as both a run and gun videographer, as well as shooting shorts and what not, to have the headphone jack, the weather sealed body, and all that goodness of the various new video modes, unlocked to their full potential (not that they are in any way, shape or form bad now. Just not enough better for me to want to upgrade). Not to mention it will hopefully have come down at least a tad in price.

But for now, it's just tough to beat a GH2 in the image quality department. I love it more every day.

 I don't get it - what could you possibly want from a hack that the GH3 doesn't already do?

72mb/s is too low for a proper ALL-I codec. Not enough space to have large clean I-frames. That is why 50mb/s IPB performs cleaner than ALL-I on the stock GH3.

I don't have a GH2 to compare, but I believe the GH3 has similar capabilities. This comes from the 50mb/s capture, of course. However, I think it's a bit of a misnomer to say that this technique is extending the dynamic range, it's just making the existing range more accessible and useable. I've shot the GH3 side-by-side with a C100, and the Canon has more range, ie it shows a wider range of f-stops on the subject in the recorded image. But the extra data in the GH3 image is useful for lifting detail out of the shadows that are recorded, and it lets the shooter feel safer in protecting the highlights in high contrast scenes.

Keeping my unhacked GH2 on tripod like in the film and it looks every bit as good ,what is being proven here.

In every video comparing the two, my eye goes to the gh2 every time, I just like the image better, what can I say?

I like the gh3 body, menu, and weather proofing, but none of those features have anything to do with the image, with that said, I will stick with the gh2 until m4/3rds black magic is available. Its to bad the black magic team is a huge FAILURE!!! in terms of building their product, truely pathetic attempt at entering the camera market. so sad
