GH2 Service Menu?

I have heard numerous anecdotes from people who have bought Japanese/Korean GH2s, at which point the salesmen have taken the camera "out the back", after which the language on the camera changed to English.

This is no doubt more fiction than fact, as I'm certain that, if true, someone here would have found it long before this, but is there some sort of service menu on the GH2 that can allow the language to be changed to something other than Japanese?

(I can read Japanese, thankfully, but using the GH2 on a shoot next month and don't want to have to spend most of my time translating the menus for others!)
 
This has been mentioned before. Several of the more established members on the forum know how to do it. However, they are not going to tell you how to do it so don't bother asking.
 
Last time someone who only had a few posts asked he said he wasn't going to tell them. Maybe he has changed his mind?

Ah right, fair enough and understood. I'd hate to derail any attempts at hacking the GH2 firmware (as I'm an Aussie, I need PAL/25p!). I'll shoot him a PM once mine arrives next week. Cheers guys.

I am a student in South Korea currently studying an MFA in film directing. I am planning to buy a new camera and I have basically decided on the Panasonic GH2 over the Canon 5D Mk2/7D. Largely due to the price. As I am still a student and don't have a lot of money it's cheaper for me to buy a Japanese GH2. The problem I can't read Japanese. I know that there is a Japanese to English patch available for the GH2. Can anyone point me in the right direction to download it? Thanks

Read this thread before you make the same mistake that the original poster did.
 
OP is me - I can read Japanese, but even with limited understanding of katakana you could get away with using the GH2, it's really not that hard at all to work out what everything does.

So for me, it was definitely worth it (vs waiting for it to be released in Australia - don't think it has, even now, and I daresay it'll be $500-1000 more than I got it in Japan).

With that said, if there IS a patch going around then it sure as hell isn't being released publicly; everyone I've asked has been very tight lipped and hesitant to give any info on it, so don't hold your breath on changing it to English any time soon.

And yes, it's NTSC, but as I shoot only for Vimeo it really doesn't matter to me.
 
As a new Japanese GH2 user, I'm sure the katakana language will speed up the learning curve. Can Katakana be selected as a language in the menu?
