I have both, and the ETC function on the GH2 is _way_ better than the T3i. My 720/60p crops (about 5x) look better than the 3x 1080p on the T3i.
BTW, just because it's not mentioned in any of the reviews so far, doesn't mean they dropped it.
I know the GH2 is way sharper in ETC mode than the T3i. The only reason I didn't get a GH2 origionally is they were unavailable anywhere last March when the T3i's showed up in every camera store that sold Canon.
I'd love to see some samples of the ETC at 500 to 800 yards with a 600mm lens, but those shots appear do not be available online anywhere. I just haven't been able to find anyone with one that wants to go testing the same shot between the two. I can imagine way, way sharper, but I'm not so sure it has a better aesthetic. I also have a couple of L lenses now that can't be replaced even remotely on the GH2.
There is one site that showed a line item for Digital Zoom on the T4i and it said "No". The Image Resource site looks like it copied the T3i specs page and shows the 3-10x zoomm so who really knows. I called Canon today and they don't have a user manual for the T4i yet so they couldn't say for sure either.
I have a decent tool now. The GH2 would be another tool to boost the quiver. It's just easier to stick with one formula though. If the T4i doesn't have the 3x crop zoom that plan is going to change
