GH2 Pre-orders

I received an email from Adorama this morning that my GH2 14-140 kit has shipped. UPS picked it up from them today and it's expected to be here on Friday. Yes, I know it's Sunday, but apparently UPS is working today as the UPS tracking shows they origin scanned it today and it's "in transit"

If anyone is still searching. I returned my GH2 body to Henery's Camera in Pickering, Ontario, Canada on Sunday.

Just checking in and wondering if there are more of you in the same situation.
I pre-ordered a Black 14-42 kit on 9-26 from Amazon. My order was never cancelled and I never received the Re-up email. That is, until today. I have been waiting patiently for Amazon to come through. It's been difficult watching others secure their cameras for the last couple of weeks but I figured that the more of you that jumped off the Amazon train would just move me up in the order. Not to mention that history has shown me that it's often best to just wait in the line that you are in rather than to move to another line. (grocery store) But this is just ridiculous. Who would have guessed that the first retailer to make pre-orders available would be the last to receive their order from Panasonic. Not me............. At least I do have my GH1.
Okay, I'm done venting.

PD came thru with our orders and I got EPP price so not much complaint.
Overall I liked GH1 button placement more than GH2. I really missed the click able dial in the front instead of back and some of the buttons seem harder to press esp Display button and placed too close together to Q.Menu button.
Touch screen is very underwhelming too. It only works with certain function, not exactly a full functioned touch screen. For example, when in playback mode and trying to delete pictures why can't I use touch screen to select them? I still have to use display button to select pictures.
One thing that I really liked with GH2 hardware wise is the battery charger. No more AC cable hanging around. Panasonic finally added fold able AC prong in the charger ala Sony style.

Seriously rethinking spending any money on Panasonic at this point. 2+ hrs on hold with PD. Placed order on 12/12 as soon as camera was again available for order. Used corp. discount. Last week after 1.5 hr hold was told cameras would arrive at warehouse last Friday or early this week. Today told cameras will not arrive for 1 - 4 weeks. Allegedly (according to a "member of management") they've brought up customer frustration to Panasonic already, but if I insist, they could let Panasonic know that I'm unhappy about the situation as well. Issue is not the wait, but the patronizing attitude.

Just received mine (14-140 kit) today from Vistek Canada, great service and fast delivery, you pay $1580.00 out of the door incl express delivery to US and of course they have them in stock.

I experienced almost the same exact thing today. They were supposed to ship within three to seven business days... Well...that's gone by . Once again...I spent two hours waiting on the phone only for them to tell me that they are not in stock. I asked why? When I purchased the cam it showed as "In-Stock" on thier Website. Well..their final answer was that they are expecting a small shipment on January 4th and even then I'm not guaranteed. Their second shipment is supposed to be larger and that's on January 15th. What a mess. Oh well...there's a price to be paid for buying this thing for $300 less than retail I guess. At least they have not charged my card......yet.

Bane,

Is the warranty an American or Canadian warranty?

Thanks,

Dan.

Ordered my camera from Kenmore Camera from a suggestion on this site. Ordered on Friday 17th, came on Monday (Dec, 20) by priority mail. They are in Seattle. I am in Michigan. Black with 14-42 lens. Haven't had time to mess too much with it yet. Placed my first order with another site way back in September........cancelled that one the instant I saw this available. The guys there have been extremely professional to deal with and top notch in answering my questions.

I sometimes can't help but feel the same way.

However, I realize that Panasonic Corp (of Japan) is a great company with very innovative and quality products. It is Panasonic USA (which has absolutely nothing to do with Panasonic Corp) that constantly screws up things, and treats customers in highly unprofessional ways.

So by all means buy Panasonic products if you like them. Nevermind Panasonic USA.

This is standard for PD - really there is no reason to use PD unless one gets a discount. Their order system is not realtime so they take more orders than they have stock to fill and delays are to be expected. My Gh1 took almost 2 months, I've had lenses take 4-6 months, a mic much longer than that, and I never receive shipping confirmation emails prior to actual shipment. There is never any point in calling PD as hold times are uneven, stories will change constantly, and PD reps have no tools at their disposal to help.

I tend to order PD items and forget about them - then when they "magically" appear weeks or months later it is a nice surprise. (The GH2 will be a nice Jan/Feb surprise.) If you don't get a discount and care about service shop elsewhere - Panasonic has some great dealers who deserve your business - if you get a discount then PD is the only game in town that I know of...
(sorry for the long rant)

Pre-ordered via Amazon 9/25 for black 14-140 - just got an email with a Dec 24 delivery date. I'm believing this one because my account says Shipping Soon and I have Prime.

What is crazy is that I have received two GH2s and returned one of them for being defective before my original Sept 22nd order with Amazon would have ever shipped. Why is Amazon the last to get theirs. I would be really pissed if I was one of their buyers.

I bet Panasonic tries to fill the small orders first so that they don't do a bunch of partial shipments to Amazon. That must drive Amazon nuts. I know the sales from the GH2 are a drop in the bucket for Amazon. However, they got were they are today by selling anything and everything as much as they can. I have to think that several hundred $1000 orders does mean something to them.

Canadian. Panasonic Canada and Panasonic USA are two separate entities. Any GH2 bought in Canada will have to be sent cross-border for warranty repair, the same way we have to for any cross-border purchase we make from the states.

Hello! I ordered direct from Panasonic on 12/16 (silver body) via the Panasonic Purchasing Program (company discounted) and just got off the LOOOOOONNNNNG hold time with Panasonic this morning to find it should arrive 12/27 (free shipping). I couldn't get through to Panasonic's help line at all until today. The hold times were so long (over 45mins) that I gave up. This was also the first day they didn't say "we're experiencing high call volume" on their hold music. Shipping is to Southern CA.
