A spring, then summer visit to the Phoenix Desert Botanical Gardens.

Spring is the ideal time to see cactus in bloom, and the butterfly house exibit.

A Panasonic TM700 version is here: vimeo.com/44341024

Panasonic GH2
Lumix 14-140 & GX 14-42 lens

Lovely place Dan,which of your two cameras/cams came out best at the gardens in your opinion.

Very difficult question Chris. Though the GH2 had the advantage of blooms and butterflies of spring, the ease of use and tack sharp image of the (3 year old) TM700, to my eye, gives it a 10 to 15% edge in these videos. The TM700 60p, 28Mbps image holds up better in post for small moves, stabilization, and especially slow-motion. For well lit landscapes, it's hard to choose between these two cameras.

I'd be interested in your preference.

Yes it is difficult to have a preference Dan,but i hope i am not being biased prefering the color on the GH2s,regarding resolution a combination of my monitor and vimeo was hard to tell for me, i have a FZ150 that does 50P but it is not high resolution like the TM700! MY GH2 has far more,50P our equivalent of your 60P is of little use to me as i put all my edited films on Blu Ray as well as external drives and 50P is not Blu Ray compatable.
one thing i have found is i get better quality video since the 1.1 update,25P in a wrapper is fine on BD and i never liked pal 24P ,i am one of the few who has not hacked,a combination of being too nervous but content with what i get at present i guess.all the best Chris

I've got to agree with you Chris, GH2 color, even after two years of editing, still impresses me.

HI Dan!
There was an interesting artistic look to the TM700 version. But knowing the Botanical Gardens well, I could see the color and saturation was not "accurate". The lounging lizard looked great.
The GH2 really can render some very true to life recordings. Especially in your hands.
Thanks for another nice trip!

Thank you for the encouraging words DP. Always good to hear from you.

You're correct, the summer clips from both cameras show in camera saturation increase, exposure decrease, and the TM700 slight warming increase.

Thanks for watching.

Dan you make fine looking videos with your GH2 ! and as far i know like myself you have not hacked your camera,do you think there will be a time when you will consider a hack ?
For me as long as i am happy with my results i leave my camera status quo for fear of the problems that can arise. All the best in your next venture,Chris

Chris,

The evidence may exist, but so far I have seen no evidence hacks would be of benefit to my projects. I'm also not interested in the problems they may introduce. I am looking forward to the possibility of 60p, and better over & undercrank with the GH3 though.
