GH2 official discussion thread

Yes it was you, hello :-)

I didn't know about a banding issue, I haven't read this forum for weeks, but as far as I understand it, it's a matter of not syncing with lighting properly?

I shoot for web and DVD only so the lack of 25p isn't an issue for me but I can understand that for some people it is. I assume it will be fixed in firmware update soon.

Hello ;) - not sure when you'll see your camera & lenses, the UK seems to have come to a virtual standstill with the snoooooooooow.

Glad that Mathers came through for you - the banding is something that has been noticed in another thread. It doesn't seem to be a big deal at the moment.

To be honest, I've been contemplating cancelling my order for a couple of weeks. I'm very pleased with the GH1 that I picked up recently from the Harrison Cameras £249 offer that was mentioned in a DVXuser thread.

I'd already sold my previous GH1, and bought the second one because it was brand new, hackable, and cheap enough to ensure that I wouldn't lose money when I sold it (probably make some money, in fact)

As it happened, it proved to be something of a gem, with no banding, and no colour noise. So that started me thinking that, maybe, I was buying the GH2 because it was a new toy, and not because I needed it ;)

Mind you, I wanted that toy! - but it seemed to be the common-sense thing to leave it for a month or two and see how it pans out in real-life use.

I'm still in a slight state of shock because it's very rare for me to display any common-sense about anything! ;)

Congrats again on your new stuff - that's a nice bundle of glass btw - Mathers must have been considerably cheaper than French stores for you to order so much?

Hope it all gets to you quickly, and that you a lot of fun with it.

Cheers.

I totally understand your point. I already have two GH1s and there is definitely advantage in the GH2 for me. I really missed push-AF in the GH1, and the crop mode of the GH2 is great because sometimes the DOF of the GH1 when shooting indoors with electric light was too small for me. If I wouldn't need the push-AF and crop mode I would be happy with my GH1s as well. And yes, at Mathers everything was cheaper than at Amazon.fr, and Amazon.fr doesn't sell body only and I don't want that 14-42mm kitlens. You're right about the snow, I forgot that. I read that Gatwick has been closed for 2 days? It's as bad as last year again. Here there's a lot of snow too and many flights to/from Paris airports being cancelled as well.

Yes, the colder winters are due to global warming, things are out of balance. NASA said 2010 has been the hottest year ever.

In stock in Canadian retailers

In stock in Canadian retailers

I walked into McBain's camera in Edmonton. I asked one of they guys behind the counter when they planned on getting the GH2 in stock and what the pricing would be. He pointed over his shoulder and said.."There's one". They had two in stock. One display model with the 14-140 lens. I tried it out and have to say I like it. Autofocus seems very fast. I found it a bit small for my hands but I think that will be solved when the battery grip comes out next year. I"m not quite ready to buy but it's nice to see that Canadian dealers are finally starting to get them.

I got my Gh2 body today and noticed the lens firmware is blank unlike the my Gh13, which I updated to ver 1.3. I wonder if I should apply the same lens frimware to the GH2.

If you're saying when you don't have a lens mounted on the camera, the lens firmware version display is "blank", then that's normal. At least that's the case with my GH1, and I think the GH2 would work the same.

When you mount an electronically compatible lens on the camera, a lens firmware value should display. But when there's no lens, or if it's a manual or incompatible lens, then no display (of a lens firmware version #) is normal.

Is that what you have there with your GH2?

Will an older 14-140mm lens that came off a GH1 work exactly the same as the 14-140mm that comes with a brand new GH2? You know, will it have the new super fast AF and such or is the new 14-140mm actually new and different from the GH1's 14-140mm.

GH2 (pre-production) high ISO short test

GH2 (pre-production) high ISO short test

The GH2 that was in my hands was the pre-production one.
The firmware is the 0.2 but the definitive one will be the 1.0, much more better than the 0.2.
The images at 3200 ISO are noisy, but I saw other videos filmed on a GH2 production model and the images are stunning.
I will test the definitive one as soon as I can!
Thanks for watching and stay tuned!

True I had one of my Canon lens on it, swap in the 14-140 and it does read lens ver. 1.3

Atomos Ninja can capture HDMI. But spending over $1K including hdd or ssd solely for hdmi recording seems expensive. We know GH2 disables 720p when HDMI out is enabled. What I really want is... well you know what I want. Hopefully Panny releases a new firmware soon.

Could someone tell me please, if you can rotate the lcd screen forward, so that the subject being filmed can see themselves and still have the image transmitted SIMULTANEOUSLY to the viewfinder. Thanks very much.

Fiona.

No. LCD or EVF. They dont dont work at same time. You could use a monitor via hdmi though.

I would suspect so since it's possible on the GH1 already.

Is that supposed to look like Canon color science? I have to say, it doesn't look anything at all like what my 7D produces. Too much saturation in the blues and reds. And the skin tones are too warm. I just shot some fall scenes a week ago that had similar lighting.
