GH2 official discussion thread

Wierd then if its true why Panasonic is doing this...as some are under the impression 25p is not a "professional" standard...yet they put it in their expensive professional camera and not a general consumer one?
Im sure they will impliment it later...but should of been implimented originally. Panasonic make some strange decisions sometimes.
Sorry to continue making this off topic *in a way it isnt as it is still a discussion about the GH2*

Would looove to get a AF100 btw

evident of canikony spies inside the Panasoinc HQ at work.
:)

That's exactly backwards. No-one is saying professionals don't use 25P .... we are speculating that Panasonic left off 25P and 30P because the non-pros who will be the main GH2 customers don't want/need those formats (because they are not broadcast standards and won't go onto BluRay etc.)

You can see the same logic at work with their video cameras: their US consumer model TM700 only has 24p and 60i/p, whereas the prosumer-ish HMC40 has 24P, 30P and 60i/p

Read back in the thread theres been a couple of comments like 25p is pointless non standard etc.

TM700 is 25/50p (optimum quality) in the uk btw ...wheras the GH2 is 24p (optimum quality) in uk... a PAL country tht by and large use 25p ...this is the issue....this is my viewpoint as a UK consumer not US one.

Worth noting that on most of the threads here AFAIK nobody asked for native 25p, just native 24p...check the petitions.

Thats because this is a mostly US based forum and plus a lot of ya are 24p obsessed lol....keep in mind there are other countries in the world and filmakers who prefer to use 25p also who are dissapointed native 25p is not aavailable in their territories with GH2.
Anyway I ramble on too much so I leave it. Most of you wont get the 25p perspective because of the 24p obsession or in ntsc standard countries...and really I love using my GH1s with 25p 44mb AVCHD native...so itll do me for now
;-)

Well, I'm not a professional and I want 25p. :) And 25p IS a broadcast standard and it DOES go on to Blu Ray (as 50i, which gets detected and displayed as perfect 25p, and that's why there's no native distribution format).

If, according to you, 25p isn't a broadcast standard (as in, not broadcast from stations natively), then why the heck have they included 24p? 24p isn't a broadcast standard either. :cheesy:

I can see what you're thinking in regards to the prosumer HMC40 having 30p. however, 25p is equivalent to 24p AND 30p. So it doesn't matter whether the HMC40 has 30p, as it's just filling in the same slots as even the PAL TM700 (which has 25p and 50i/p).

It's worth noting that most of the Canon CONSUMER camcorders have had the option of 25p for years, so clearly consumers want and use it.

Wow nice low light performance at 3200 iso, can't understand french but that guy seems quite a character :)

Thats because the GH1 had the 25p already (in the 50i wrapper).
Why asking for something that is already there?
Nobody thought, that Panasonic would discard the 25p in the GH2, they just wanted additionally the 24p.

Real question: what is wrong with 50i?

I know you have previously admitted to having little experience in video production and wanting to learn more on this forum but why would you continually ask the same question when people have explained it to you over and over again....Anyway I will explain it one more time for you.

Interlace is plagued with issues for motion graphics work such as when scaling or rotating images, time stretching (sped up or slowed down) and many other similar problems that require effects work on separate fields where crosstalk interference can occur between the odd and even fields...1080 50i is also half the vertical resolution (540 lines) of 1080 25P and then you just have the plain old field order reversal problems if you export video with the wrong field first that can produce chronic strobing or judder in video.

Interlace has been a kludge that had in use once upon a time but should have been dropped from HD spec IMHO.

And as far as 25P being a broadcast standard - well of course it is...In fact I have just produced a TVC that went to air a few weeks ago that was entirely shot and post produced in 25P.

Bear in mind this was a prelim draft for people to check for any errors and wasnt the completed TVC that went to air

25P inside 50i works perfectly for broadcast.

Nice video. Can all those that need 25fps not just stop whining? Use your energy and time for contacting Panasonic and ask them to add 25fps and if they don't do that, start looking for another cam. This thread has become like a candy store filled with screaming children who can't choose between the vanilla fudge and the chocolate cake because they want both!

Sigh.... rest assured this will be the last time I post here, my AG-AF is pre-ordered since beginning of last week..... but for everybody who works and shoots in the world of PAL professionally or semi-professionally, 25 p is a big issue out of a lot of reasons I do not need to repeat.

So this was an attempt to draw - by chance - Panasonic's attention to a big fault we see in this nice, new cam. A fault it does not need to have because 25 p could have easily been implemented in a sub-menu. Why did we do that? Because we can not choose ... if we work pro or semi-pro, that is... we can only chose to go away and buy another camera even when we may have hoped that we can stick with the GH series .... if you call that "whining" then call it so.

I am a bit sad only that the GH2 - with a load of really, really nice features - for us, the few "whiners", has fallen back into the amateur section. And I am out of here....

I'm a pro in France (PAL) shooting for web and DVD and the lack of 25fps isn't an issue for me. I'll get both the GH2 and AF100 and shoot in 24fps when I use the GH2 as B cam and I'm sure my clients won't make a problem about it. I honestly doubt that many of the whiners are shooting for BBC, Discovery Channel or other broadcasters. So stop acting negative on behalf of everybody else in PAListan. And read a message before replying to it; I'm not saying that you are wrong, you do have a point and it would be nice to have 25fps but whining here doesn't help, I wrote that you should contact Panasonic about it instead of trying to draw their intention in here. Do you think they are reading all the forums to go through all the negativity to look for features people might ask for? Your 'we can not choose" comment is nonsense, again, nobody is forcing you to buy a GH2. Buy a D7000 or a 60D or an AF100, they all have 25fps, problem solved. You're making yourself sad with your negativity.

.....are shooting for BBC, Discovery Channel or other broadcasters. So stop acting negative on behalf of everybody else in PAListan. .

I do at times shoot additional material for TV, use the GH 13 as 2nd, 3rd & crash-cam for productions and have 25 p material from other video cams that won't intercut with 24 p without producing synchronity problems .... and I am no fan of pull-down removal and other issues.... and I am not sad but a tiny bit upset .... and, as I said, I am out of here.... so: Au revoir.... ;-)

Bravo! That "bitching and moaning" about the lack of 25p ticks me off, slowly but surely. It has been mentioned more than enough - for everybody here and for Panasonic too.....

Well, Panasonic won't do anything until enough people show their dissatisfaction. If not that many people care about it then there won't be enough posts to bother you. The fact that it bothers you tells me there are a number of people that want it added back.

I actually couldn't care less about 25p since I live in NTSC land. I still made a video promoting 25p because I think that is the best way to get Panasonic's attention.

Some people forget that Panasonic corrected the auto ISO issue for the G2 and G10 shortly after people started posting about it. They may have planned to make the change all along but the comments and video couldn't have hurt.

When it comes to manufactures, the more people who scream, and the louder they scream, the more likely something will get done.

Because its not a issue for you? This is a FORUM! Discussion, whining whatever you call it is all part of a forum sadly.
Everyone is allowed to express a opinion...yours is taken on board.

It would be mentioned tenfold in these forums if there was no 30p or 24p. :cheesy:
