GH2 official discussion thread

The images during panning shots don´t look good - its a kind of flickering. I don´t know what it is. With the canons i´ve never seen this behavior with 24p...

Did you transcode as 24p? It's reported as 23.98 in the MTS file. I tried re-encoding at this frame rate and it looked okay, apart from a little bit of aliasing on the railings.

I converted that mts file with Cineform (it converts fine by the way, to 1080P23.976) and took a close look at the individual frames. While the guy says (in the Vimeo comments) that he shot at 1/50, the motion blur is not consistent with that. I'm sure it was at least 1/100, possibly higher . So that at least partly explains why the footage looks bad.

What's the best? Somebody taking the camera out in the real world and showing it off warts and all, or the other guy who takes the camera out on a Zoolander style road trip and then edits out all the bad bits?
The geek in me wants the former, the artist/consumer/etc the latter. It's all good, give it all to us :)

Sometimes footage like the ones shot by Tan Kin Hor can be more telling and meaningful than stuff shot by a professional filmmaker...

True, but the total amateur quality makes me question the validity of the footage. How do we know it's a GH2? I would think that Panasonic would want to put their new cam in the hands of people that will shoot inspiring footage, not hacks who shoot junk worse than your average tourist.

Sometimes footage like the ones shot by Tan Kin Hor can be more telling and meaningful than stuff shot by a professional filmmaker. The latter one will select carefully a few really good shots out of several hundreds. So, for sure, the result will be very clean and worth seeing. I personally do appreciate both...

Okay...... but would it have been so hard then to shoot something that tells me a bit more than: This camera can take pictures? I do not ask for creamy stuff. And I know that for instance at the Photokina nothing else was possible. But this other stuff is weird.

But, as I said, we just have to wait and see. For me still two questions remain: Do they smuggle the 25 p option into a sub-menu and will the HDMI output have no restrictions or overlays. If this is answered with "yes" I buy the thing immediately. For me the real treat then would be the zoom option by cropping to the real 1920 x 1080 pixels (was it factor 2.6?) - at least in theory that would mean my 100mm f 2.0 becomes a 260 mmm. And that is when I start waving my hat in joy..... ;-)

I call BS on all of this. This guy has posted many videos from a GH13 claiming they are from a GH2. He also has many other very questionable videos. I think he is just shopping for hits.

Oh yea, you have to sign up at his site to see the instructions. It just screams scam.

And finally I checked the properties of the 1080p file he claims is from a GH2 and it is at 25 FPS. The GH2 does not do native 1080p @ 25 FPS video.

OK, but the clips are very sharp.

About the third or so video with the reflecting house he writes himself (Title is GH2 Video btw.)

"GH1 hacked video. 3 Times as good as Canon 5Dmk2, twice as good as the new GH2.

Scarletwhore.com 104Mbs hack settings.

The Russian guy is cool... the dvxuser idiots are morons."

This seems to be logically a bit inconsistent if you ask me. So I guess that the moose in the moss is either shot with a GH1(3 ) too - or it's a hackable alien from area 51. And this guy is a piece of work.....
