GH2 official discussion thread

Okay to remove. I think that Panasonic would want to make the 3-D lense available to the GH-1 due to larger installed user base.

My opinion is that they won't make it available for GH1 users, because you need incremental upgrades to profit like Canon does. Also, once a new firmware is released, then everyone will start hording the GH1s over again.

Have a look @ 00:50 : Intelligent Processing, Increase quality by 20% (vs GH1) Effective Compression + High Picture Quality by checking before/after frame.

It may mean they have fixed the codec !

The more I look into this then more I think that we really have two same cameras in different bodies and with different OLPF in case of AF100 and GH2.

I think you are right... Same camera, but with extra features for audio and video on AF100, but same otherwise.

If so this would make GH2 one heck of a deal.

Perhaps, but a 20% increase on 24mbps still won't make it as good as a hacked GH1.

And the situation for PAL users looks dire. Only 24p at the highest bitrate which is a huge pain to deal with. 50i is only 17mbps (if I understand correctly) and is true interlaced (not 25p in a wrapper).

So is it really the case that there's no way to get true 1080 25p out of this camera? I shoot stuff for UK broadcast so this looks like its actually worse than the original GH1 let alone the GH13. Or have I misunderstood?

Do you think th GH2 is "hackable" to AF100 spec?

Do you think th GH2 is "hackable" to AF100 spec?

That would be incredible?

thanks for all the feedback and comments Vitaliy.

Panasonic are really looking impressive with these 2 designs.

What is the deal with AF100 for PAL?

Is that as restrictive?

So...GH2 will be pretty much same image quality as AF100, yet as some say, 24mpbs GH2 will still compare unfavorably to GH13. So GH13 > AF100. Just as I predicted :)

Who wants to buy my GH13 for 3000$? :)

Question:

1. What is color space bit rate etc on GH2? I presume then same as AF100 8 bit 4:2:0 except Gh2 has no possibility to record to outside recorder like Nano for 4:2:2 due to crippled HDMI?

Vitaliy on a scale of 1-10 how would you rate

The Panasonic effort, having in mind everything we would like and what they can deliver on a consumer level product. Also on a scale of 1-10 where do you put the competition?

550, 6
5d, 6
Sony a55, 4
Panasonic GH2, 7 or 8 (if hackable a 9) all subject to iq of course.

Sam.

Tell me this doesn't mean B-frames!
"by checking before/after frames."

"B‑frames can use both previous and forward frames for data reference to get the highest amount of data compression." -Wikipedia

Little graphic and all...looks like we have B-frames :)

We don't know anything for certain.
Only few words that it skips frames during recording.

This is true.

However it could make sense that the camera processing power is dedicated for the internal recording and whatever funtions are enabled and "whats left" is used to render the HDMI out. So in cases where processor meets it limits (or safety limit) it starts skipping frames on the HDMI out?

Or could it be related to converting the internal signal which could be of varying fps to HDMI standards?

And if it only skips frames while camera is recording could it be viable to record through HDMI while GH2 is not recording?
