GH2 + Ninja External Recorder

Hi all,

I was wondering if the GH2's hdmi outputs an uncompressed signal and if yes I would like to know if the Ninja ProRes captured videos from GH2's hdmi will be visibly better videos than stock GH2 videos... and what is better in case ? colors ? details ?

I'm looking for a light solution to film with my Glidecam (without vest, that's why I need it light) but with better quality than stock GH2.

let me know your opinions, thanks !!

You could potentially use them together, we don't really know the answer to that yet because the Ninja isn't on the market so nobody has tried it. The GH2 has some major issues to deal with when using its HDMI output though. It was not designed to be recorded, so you have to jump through some hoops in post to post-process the footage, and even then you won't have any audio (the HDMI doesn't output audio), you won't have any timecode (because HDMI doesn't do timecode), and it won't have 4:2:2 color because the HDMI doesn't output proper 4:2:2 color.

It will, however, likely look better in terms of compression and image fidelity, than the onboard SDHC-card recording. There is a thread here talking about experiments with recording the HDMI using AVISynth, it's a long read but you can see examples and see the current state of the research in that sticky thread.

None of this directly applies to the Ninja though because it hasn't been tested or verified yet, so ultimately your question at this time is not answerable.
