Just shot this yesterday, some challenges in the room led to using the Ex Tele Conversion. I am very happy with the quality of image:

Why did you have to use the E-T-C on this not that it does not look ok on vimeo, also why is the color look so blue and not natural skin tone.

Looks like a white balance issue unless that's the tone he was shooting for. But there's no technical reason why a more natural skin tone couldn't have been achieved.

Yes, I am having a challenge with white balance and some new lights. I think I fixed the skin tone, take a look.

The eye light was a light box, flourescent bulbs.

Better. Instead of vignetting, I'd rely more on shallow depth of field on a close-up like this. Perhaps placing her a bit farther from the wall would attain this. The eye light looks great; you really want that specular on a close-up. The only other thing I would say is that the lighting is too flat. Place that light more to her left/camera right and use foam core or something to bounce from the other side. Then maybe back light her hair a little bit if she needs to pop more.

vcassel, thanks so much for the feedback, I appreciate it very much. (she looks like she is close to the wall because of the Ex Tele Conversion, she is actually very far from the wall behind her) I usually use my vari-nd to get very shallow depth of field but didn't have it with me that day.

Ah, that explains it. Still waiting on my GH2 so I can try out that feature. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the encouragement and the coaching. I will try those lighting ideas on next attempt!

...I did some quickie corrections to your video via Sony Vegas Pro, and exported a couple of BEFORE and AFTER screen-grabs at 00:00:59:17 on the timeline:

NO CORRECTION at 00:00:59:17

WITH CORRECTION at 00:00:59:17

The corrections were:

Color-balance: Add RED to get rid of the CYAN cast

Saturation: Boost saturation a little to try and see some color in the girl's face

Gamma: Slightly lower the gamma of the video to preserve more detail in the girl's face

NOTE: The screen grabs are full resolution PNG graphics, so if you click on the Google Docs image it will open to full size.

Lots of detail in your video image. Very nice once it's been corrected.

Wow, very cool, thanks for doing that. Yes, lots of detail.

And thanks mr fanny, these flourescent lights work pretty well, I just have to get a better white balance.

Yes, I am having a challenge with white balance and some new lights.

How did you set the white balance ?

My preferred method is to dial it in as degrees Kelvin, where I would start with something like 5,000 K for daylight balanced fluorescent tubes, and 3,000 K for tungsten ones. ( Once you get to know your lights you can figure out exactly the temperature you like best )
