GH2 internal noise

Hi. Recently I bought this marvellous camera with the 14-140 lens. Everything is OK for me except a strange internal noise, as if any electronical component is not running correctly. This sound is audible while recording with the internal mic. Curiously the frequency of the noise changes according the zoom focals, sometimes is like a subtle fan others like a high "beeeee". With others manual lenses the sound is not present. I don't know if it is a zoom problem or a body problem (as I don't have more full auto lenses to test with it). Before try to change it with other in the shop house (bought it by internet)... Anyone happens it the same? Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Image stabilisation? I can't hear my Panasonic 14-45 on my GF1, but my Nikkor 105mm ƒ/2.8 VR makes a surprising amount of noise. Not that it's loud as such - it's only about as noisy as the focus motor - but it's not completely silent either.

Try turning OIS off on the lens and see if that helps.

by nature the 14-140 is very quiet, more so than the 20mm, thats noisy and by noisy its not really noisy but noisy enough ha...If you are hearing noise, its most probably lens related. As Jonathan suggested turn OIS off. post up a clip too so we can compare.

No OIS issue... I have tried to change everything in the camera and the noise remains... As I wrote noise changes when moving zoom focal!! The zoom firmware is the 1.3. Any real improvements with the recent 1.4?

Hi,
I guess that the noise which you are hearing has to come from a built in CMOS cooling. I noticed the same noise with my 14-140mm lens. The noise is no prolem. I cannot hear it on the built in microphone after listening to my recorded material.
Best regards, Maxwell77

I think you are right Maxwell77. I was always thinking that the noise seems to me from internal fan... In my case this fan change of frequency (higher) and is subtle audible while recording!! Understand that the camera (not the zoom) is faulty? Why is it full quiet with manual lenses?

I highly doubt that GH2 has internal fan to cool down the sensor. Internal recording always picks up some noise. If that bothers you enough, go for external recording.

I have noticed this with 14-140mm but never on audio track. I believe it must be the OIS. The OIS does stuff even when off (like automatically flip portrait pictures) and I think it might make noises even when off.

This is nothing next to the OIS noise of some cameras and lenses.

I had similar issue with GH1, I recorded a video with the noise and sent it back. I got my money back, bought the camera somewhere else.

I have the same issue. I received a new GH2 today with the 14-140 Kit lens. After setting it up in Video mode I noticed that there was a strange wurring noise coming from the lens. At first I put it down to either the I.O.S or the autofocus, but after turning them both off I noticed it was still there? I have a Canon 70-200 mm so I am familiar with the IS on that.

The noise changes when I alter the focal length. With the lens twisted right round to the 14mm end it stops, but as I zoom it starts and continues when I stop? The internal mike does catch the sound.

Before I send it back could other people check their's to see if it does the same? Turn off I.O.S and select manual focus, do you still get a high pitched spinning noise from the lens.

Thanks for your help

Martin
