GH2 in stock thread

Guys, enough with the "called Panasonic Direct, they said ______". These people are not Panasonic employees, they work at a phone bank somewhere in South Dakota and handle customer service calls from Taco Bell, Dell, and Fisher-Price among others. They are people who sit at a terminal and punch up the company you're calling about, so they can give you stock non-answers or pass you on to someone else who will do the same. You are not getting any kind of insider info or eve minimally substantive info from these calls, so please, enough with the updates of your latest assurance from Potato Shaped Phone Bank Worker badge #417 that GH2s will ship mid-Feb because there was a problem, see, with the first production run and you didn't hear this from me, okay, but they had to do a hush hush super secret recall and swap out the sensor for a whole new module, which is why supply channels are dry right now.

I ordered a GH2 from PD too. I wish it would get here sooner, but quell surprise, a hot new camera is backordered. It will get here when it gets here. In fact, you want the inside scoop, straight from the PD rep I spoke with today? Okay, but you're not going to believe this: Panasonic read Vitaliy's thread about GH2 firmware and they extraordinary renditioned the guy, Gulfstreamed his ass to Gitmo where some Xe goons are beating him on the kidneys with monopods as we speak. And now they're profiling every PD GH2 order and if it came from a DVXuser member they're sending it to the back of the queue. That's right. We won't get our GH2s until Panasonic releases the GH4, at the earliest. By then Amazon will be blowing GH2s out for chump change, a hundred bucks maybe. Sorry to break it to you but this comes directly from a PD rep and THEY SHOULD KNOW, RIGHT? I mean, Panasonic is a small, family run company, where there are no offices or titles, just a kibbutz, and anyone can walk right up to the chairman and ask him what's really going on with the GH2 backorders and he'll totally tell them.

I don't think it is unreasonable to think that pd will know if my camera has shipped. I know I'm not the only one checking this thread everyday to see if anyone got theirs shipped yet. I appreciate when people post any info from pd so maybe others might.

But you'll spend your time writing an excessively long essay on your opinion of why we shouldn't bother posting updates from pd.... really ? Why did you even bother to read the thread?

Okay nip it in the bud here... don't derail this thread, it's for update on who has stock only. Not personal opinions. If you have info about where cameras are in stock or that yours has shipped, please share, if not, create your own thread.

Actually, Panasonic runs their own customer call center out of Norfolk, VA. This is verifiable with a quick search. If you talk to any supervisor through the Panasonic Direct line, and they give you their personal call back number, the area code is indeed local to that area. I can't confirm whether or not they outsource overflow, but judging by the long hold times, I'm guessing they don't. You're right in that they don't know what's up, though. They wouldn't know the silver bodies are in stock to recommend them. That's why sharing whatever info we can gather like this is a good thing; just as long as no one here bets on it.

Egads! People sharing info and conjecture on the internet? I'm shocked and appalled!

Guys, I'm fine with sharing real data. It's why we're all here. My point before was that it's clear that calling PD and asking for shipping updates is a waste of time, whether it really is a dedicated in-house call center or outsourced. Doesn't matter. These people are clueless. I've called them half a dozen times and gotten 6 different answers and a lot of mouth breathing. So just posting yet another "I called PD and they told me _____" is pointless at best and counter-productive at worst, as im sure some half-assed comments by call center drones have snowballed into conspiracy theories about recalls and banding problems with "the first batch" etc., and none of this is helpful to us guys who are patiently waiting for our orders to ship. Yes, I keep checking this thread because I keep hoping someone will actually show up with some actual news, but it's just the same tape loop of "I called PD and they told me _____".

By the way, I called PD today and they told me to lighten up. And to pass it on.

you guys are a trip. go back and read what happened to us first time gh1 owners. it's no different. we even had conspiracy theories about order numbers. its so funny to see you guys living this for the gh2. the fact is cameras are being sold here and there unlike the gh1 which no one could get. i had to get mine from Canada back then. i paid $2000 for it. just yesterday samys camera had like 60 and i picked up one up because hrdbolied posted here. SHAVEBLOG is right on! those PD guys don't know jack. its the same as 2 years ago. go read the postings from back then. everybody that called was told something different from PD. better to order from someone else

When I got my GH2 from Panasonic Direct back in December, I never received an "in stock" confirmation, a "shipped" notification, or any form of tracking information. One day the box simply arrived on my doorstep. I think they like to keep you in suspense!

Yep, I paid $1900 or so for my GH1 and I think it was less than a month later that you could finally get them at the regular $1500. That plus the codec shortcomings and banding issues made it somewhat of a buyer's remorse situation for a while, but the GH13 hack has since allowed me to feel very good about it in the end. I still plan on getting a GH2 at some point but I'm in no hurry. The day I can order one on Amazon and have it in my hands a couple days later, I'll bite.

B&H has upgraded the status on the 14-140 and the Black 14-42 to temporarily out of stock instead of January arrival. Maybe thats a good sign.

My GH2 arrived (after 2 months on order) from the good folks over at Tapeworks in Texas. The fellow I got it from, Brad had 2 others that were up for grabs early last week that I assume are gone now, but they have more units on order. Hit him up and get on their list.

Hope this helps someone out...

Hey Dave. Weren't those fun times. Now it's me up here in Canada that can't find one. Samy's does have them but won't ship to The Great White North. Go figure. To quote a great American; "D'oh".

Hey man. The Camera Store in Calgary has them in stock (or had them earlier today) according to one of their sales guys. $999 body only.

A lot of times they charge a fraction just to verify the card... usually it's $1 but maybe adorama likes to make double sure, haha... for what it's worth my order from Provantage states the expected delivery date for the cameras to them is Feb. 11

Nighthawk:

How are you! My documentary is finally being edited. The GH1 is the primary cam. You did me a favor. I can return it. If you want to buy at Samy's, you can ship to me and I can ship to you just for the cost of shipping. They ship fast. I bought mine on Thursday, they shipped Friday and I will have mine Monday since I am only about 100 miles from their store.
