GH2 in stock thread

I've read "rumours" stating sensor problems are being fixed... I've heard rumours saying that they are deliberately downgrading it to protect the AF100... (Get that tin foil hat on!)...
I've read poor/crazy shipping practices are to blame... and then of course there's the Tsunami...

So who knows.... But I reiterate, that's all just purely from reading forums and conjecture. Nothing more.

My little secret fear is that they might be working feverishly to try and make sure it is completely hack proof from Vitaly's wonderful work, and in the interim just trickling out the absolute bare minimum to keep numbers of hackable cameras on the market low. After the GH1 new bods this doesn't seem "too far" of a stretch...

Note to Panny: Knowing he'll be there working away makes me really WANT TO BUY YOR PRODUCT.

However putting my tinfoil hat and fears aside, with canon supplies and many other things also clearly suffering,
personally I don't think we have to look any further than the recent disasters for a worthwhile explanation.

Earthquake was just over a month ago, problems in supply been ongoing months in advance. Comment from rep at big retail says Panasonic US just "not very cooperative", whatever that means.

One reason for the delays - - - Just talked to Panasonic today, and their response was that one of their main Shipping / Packaging centers was badly damaged after the quakes in Japan...

They had the same supply problem with the GH1 too. They must have major quakes every day for years.

May be.
But surely that main problem lies in simple fact that some part of their managment had been badly damaged during birth :-)

In another thread a fellow Australian just stated that we won't be seeing a PAL version coming our way until June/July.... Shakes head.
If an 5DmIII or 8D comes out before then you'll only have your bloody selves to blame Panny!!!!

Surely Impossible the Scarlet will come between now and then... grumble.

May be Panny will become official sponsor fo our project, because they can't make PAL GH2 themselfs? :-)

I must be a fool, because sponsor/support the hacking is exactly what I think they should do.
They'd become the toast of the indi film world - and it would go along way to turning people like myself into long term panasonic fans, beyond just my current projects needs and what will best suit.
But instead it will be you Vitaliy that is the toast of the indi world and will be recruiting long term loyalty and fans.
Go figure Panny? It's a crazy world.

Note: I will be donating some $$ tomorrow to help with your brilliant work Vitaliy.

Best

There are some NEW - GH2's with the 14-140mm lens, Black, for sale on Amazon right now. Some of you who are just looking for the body, could always just end up selling the lens from the kit if you don't need or want it..?

Do you think this will hold up the announcement of the GH-3? I mean they can't even deliver all the GH-2s? Maybe the GH-3 will be announced 2012? Perhaps its better to see what Canon puts out as updates to the 5D and see if they can compete in features. Or do you even think Panny even watches what Canon does? Hmm?

Crazy, Panasonic has amazing engineers, crappy management and distribution. They need a Steve Jobs. There was a time sans Steve Jobs it looked like Apple would go out of business. They had way to many products, product numbers, and some did not sell well. Also those crappy beige plastic "Champagne" cases.

For the longest time Panny sat quietly and took irate calls about deliveries from all over the place. Those that called PD got all kinds of faux promises and excuses. Other than that, no one heard a word from Panny about the mess they have for distribution. Then right around the time of the quake, Panny came out and made some confident announcements that all backorders would be filled shortly. They posted on this site and on Facebook. That some broadcasting of confidence that they had their problem fixed.

In business you don't come out and make an announcement like that, IF you already know the fix is "short lived". IF you knew the problem would continue, you would quietly just ship everything out and keep your mouth shut until you KNEW it would stay fixed.

From what I have seen for my day job, the quake has really screwed up things in Japanese industry. Where building were untouched, inside equipoment was shifted around and now out of alignment. They also are having lots of trouble with getting and keeping up industrial grade and levels of electricity. The report I watched for my day job was stating this about factories that built components, used in the final products. So the current product shortages aren't from the assembly plants of the products, but at the component level of the manufacturing process.

IMO, when Panny made their announcement that every backordered camera would ship, I anticipated not only backorders would be filled but the entire sales channel as well would be filled with product. IMO, I think that is what Panny thought too, right up until the quake hit anyways.

Hi Guys,

Just signed up here today. I live and work in Shanghai and just picked up a GH2/14-42 Kit today for about 1050 USD - I couldn't believe the helluva time I had in finding it, most people looked at me like I was from outer space. Anyway, I'm very new to the video scene, and this camera complements my D700 very nicely. Next up is a 20mm/f1.7 and a Nikon adapter for my old AFD/AI lenses.

Cheers!

GH2 kits (both) in stock at Hunt Photo in MA as of 4/26/11... I have no affiliation with them, other than a satisfied customer - been buying gear from them for years (including a GH2 that arrived today). Hunt's is a big, old and ethical authorized dealer well known to all New England photographers. List prices on their GH2 kits (no premium), somewhat expensive shipping ($25 ground), no spare batteries in stock... As of yesterday, they had bodies as well as kits, but the bodies are gone today. I called them yesterday to order my GH2 and asked how they happened to have some when nobody else can find any. They said that they got a big shipment of Panasonic stuff in right before the earthquake, and have no idea when they'll see more once these are gone. I don't know how many they have. By the way, my first tests are very positive - cool camera (will be using it as a travel camera for both stills and video)! It's the size of a large compact, yet packs a decent DSLR and a camcorder inside...
