GH2 Hot Pixels in ETC Mode

Hi all,

Recently got my GH2 but have been disappointed in that there appears to be a group of bright pixels on the sensor (magenta/pink) with a (much) smaller green one also present. Please check the screenshot below to see if this is normal or not.

The bright pixels are represented on the LCD and EVF as well, but ONLY when recording begins. After recording ends, they disappear. I'm wondering if I should just try and swap the unit, unless there is a workaround. I've tried the pixel refresh, but it doesn't seem to do anything. The pink seems to come and go, depending on the light source.

I'm guessing the crop mode really brings out the flaws in the sensor :(

Is something like this within acceptable limits or should I try and hunt down another elusive GH2?

That's a bummer. Is it present on all ISOs or just the higher ones? I'd definitely try swapping it, although good luck if you (like me) are in the U.S. where GH2's are still scarce.

Sorry if I'm a little blind, but I can't see anything out of the ordinary in your picture. Could you post a 1:1 crop?

Hey guys, that pic got compressed and shrunk down...impossible to see there.

Like Poon mentioned, the hot pixel group only shows up once record is pressed....very strange. But to make things even more strange, I tried my Canon glass on the GH2 via the adapter last night and the hot pixel group has completely dissapeared. It is only when I put the 14-42 back on the GH2 do the magenta pixels reappear.

Is it possible there is something in this lens causing a strange refractive issue? As I said, the hot pixel cluster comes and goes depending on the light.

edit: also, these are appearing at ISO 160

A wider aperture lens could easily mask the issue.

I did some test by hooking up the GH2 to a 42inch TV thru HDMI. As mdg mentioned, the hot pixel comes and goes regardless of ISO setting. The problem is intermittent.
It's a bit of a concern as one can't really see the hot pixel on the tiny camera LCD or even with a 7" field monitor. I only spotted it until I played it back on a larger monitor.

So far the hot pixels appear regardless of the lens mounted (Nikon lenses). Most of the hot pixels are white but coincidentally, like mdg, the only time I have the nasty pink hot pixel was on the 14-42 kit lens.
BTW, my camera was not on ETC mode.

Not sure what Panny can do about it, as I thought the pixel refresh function in the camera was supposed to take care of this problem.
