GH2 HDMI display settings?

Has anyone figured out how to get the GH2 to display info on an HDMI monitor during recording? When I hit record all the info goes away...stays on LCD though. Have tried hitting the display button, etc, but I am at a loss. Also does focus assist stop working for you guys as well when using HDMI? (never worked while recording but with HDMI doesn't seem to work during. Right now I am just leaving the LCD folded out and looking at it for my info, which also is nice because I can move AF point with touch, etc...but I would like to have the option to have info on the external monitor while recording because I am not trying to capture over HDMI or anything, just use it for monitoring.

Not working for me..though I just noticed the display button doesn't seem to be accessing all of the modes it used to in any dial mode, HDMI or not, for me right now...just toggles between stuff on screen and less/no stuff on screen...no info display. I bet I bumped something in the menu I am gonna look around.

EDIT:
I turned off LCD info display, so I turned it back on just to see that that's there...still can't seem to get HDMI out to show on-screen info WHILE RECORDING.

I'm experiencing the same things you are, Ben. The info display thing is tolerable because it's still available on the LCD. But the focus assist disappearing is troubling. As far as I can tell, it just completely stops working when you have HDMI connected. It's not even displayed on the LCD when monitoring. Sure hope we're just overlooking some setting. Maybe Panasonic figures you won't need focus assist when using HDMI because you're going out to a larger monitor. There may be some validity to that, but it just seems kind of lame to have it completely disabled when using HDMI.

A work around seems to be using the ETC mode (which I have mapped to a function button) instead of focus assist.

How can I switch off additional info on hdmi when not recording ?

I want to record to external device via hdmi, so i don't want to record to camera same time, but how can I switch off menus etc on hdmi and let it remain on WF or LCD?

Agreed, but less than a desirable solution. The thing with focus assist is it's immediately apparent that you're in it. But ETC looks so nice that it would be easy to get distracted and forget you've switched to it. Not likely to happen when using a prime, but could confuse things for a moment when using a zoom.

One of the first things I did was map ETC to a function button since that is something I anticipated using a lot. And I'm finding ETC is actually much better than I'd expected. The combo of the GH2 with the 100-300mm and ETC is pretty damn cool. And autofocus is fast and accurate. Very impressive overall.

I've seen this mentioned a couple times now but does that mean the function is totally disabled or that the HDMI output cannot see the change when you activate it?

Looks totally disabled. Function button doesn't work, menu is greyed out, and if you have it on when you connect HDMI it turns off till you disconnect.

Thanks for the clarification Ben_B. I'm still very excited about being able to use my SmallHD monitor with the GH2 despite it's shortcomings. I was very disappointed when I connected a canon 60D to it. Can't wait to get my GH2.
