GH2 Hacked : better than AF 100?

Actually the GH2 has been tested to have less aliasing/moire and slightly more resolution that the AF-100. It's just better down-sampaling. Better tech in the GH2.

And there is just no comparison to the all-I 175mb/s hack. It's just amazing. The AF-100 is probably a better "production" camera. But the image is nowhere near the hacked GH2.
i own both and i would beg to differ. i do think they're both the same quality with the af100 looking softer due to the OLPF. i do much prefer af100's control over gamma and color.

I have to agree. We shot a commercial this week with both cams (hacked GH2 w/ new driftwood patch), and the shots from the AF (straight to SD) were almost always the better ones- softer but more cinematic colors and gamma, great handling of the blacks and completely noise free. This was a studio shoot with stylized lighting and mostly black backgrounds. Every production is different but I still prefer the AF for 90%+ of the work I do.

I just did a shoot with a hacked GH2 and and a af-100 and I can't see any reason for spending $4200 more for the AF-100... the hacked gh2 blew it away.... any color deals could be fixed in post.... I don't care WHAT panasonic did, 17 to 24mbit is NOT enough for real time avchd.

Not in the test I was part of. The GH2 showed aliasing in situations where the AF100 did not. Me and mpgxsvcd did the test together with his GH2 and my AF100.

I'm very impressed. No grading?! Wow.

Okay, on one hand, I'm sorry, the 176mb driftwood hack rules. It just does. It may not have the latitude of an alexa, it may not have the richness of a 5D, but it has a very high quality, distinct and compelling look that, in the right hands, is incredible (And I'm not even saying my hands are that good, but I'm pretty happy with http://vimeo.com/29930815).

After a day use of my GH2 (still unhacked), what I like about the look is that it has a resolution and sharpness (I know some people don't like this because it looks too video-ish) similar to an EX-1, but you can also achieve dramatic shallow depth of field if you want. Although I appreciate the aesthetics of the video that comes out of my 60D, I feel sometimes its "warm" and "organic" feeling is just a result/cover-up of low resolution/muddy images.

I just shot a black and white short film using a hacked GH2 and I was very pleased, especially in shots that I know my Canon would have completely fallen apart with (in relation to aliasing/moire). The resolution is very nice, and I'm very curious to know how close I could get an AF-100 with an outboard recorder. The AF-100 would definitely be worth more just for the SDI out and more video camera capabilities alone.
