GH2 external monitoring not working?

Did any of you guys ever figure out what the issue was? I'm having the same problem.

This was a major concern I had when I ordered my cheap Lilliput monitor. However, it works every time, irrespective of what unit is powered on first. It's the 5" Lilliput 569GL.

It worked with the bog-standard HDMI cable that came with it, and works just as well witrh the cheap 500mm angled cable that i bought to replace it.

Not sure why some monitors are so picky about workng - but I can definitely say that the 569GL works perfectly.

If there is one annoyance it's that the screen loses all icons when recording. I seem to remember that some people reported the presence of one or two icons - but, again definitely, nothing at all on the 569GL screen - which is a pain because you lose the focus point and record indicator.

EDIT - for any Lilliput monitor owners, the 1/4" mounting screw thread seems a bit ([1] cheaply made and [2] not many threads to it.

I didn't fancy continually screwing and unscrewing a magic arm or other adaptor, so I bought a cheap ballhead Q/R mount. The mount is bolted to the rig, and the Q/R plate is fastened to the monitor - it can stay in-situ, so no removing/refixing. It's also much more rigid and robust than the magic arm type solution, and just as adjustable. It worked so well that I bought another one to use with my H4n recorder - easy on, easy off, solid fixing because of the extra size and grip afforded by the plate to the underside of the monitor- and (in the case of the monitor) no need ever to remove it (you need to whip off the Zoom plate to change batteries - but the Zoom 1/4" threads are much better quality.

I got them from Ebay from a Korean seller for £13 - delivered in 8 days (I've known domestic UK parcels take longer ;)

I think I would experiment with a few $1 cables from eBay. I suppose Canon sells the HDMI cable, but it could be a batch issue, no guarantees. I'm not a Monster cable fan but I did buy one once to solve a really long cable run that was USB, and the Monster cable was in fact able to go a few extra feet. You could also try one that is like one foot long. I think it is possible shielding plays a role going from the big connector to the small connector. But I'm just guessing, haven't had an issue with the new cable SO FAR, wheres the thing was driving me nuts before. I usually keep the GH2 output on 720p, as well, most of the monitoring I do is on the 7". But it synced just fine to my big TV, so *WTFE*

I have a 7'' lcd from LCD4video and it wouldn't sync with with my gh2. My 3rd hdmi cable in, it syncs every time (an over-priced monster cable). I'm just about to take delivery of a jag35 hdmi splitter so we'll what cable fun we have with that..

have you played with the order of turning on cam and monitor? When connected through HDMI devices start negociating their protocols which can be influenced by the order in which one and the other are powered on....or so I´ve heard.
