I saw another DIY video like this on Cheesycam and thought to give it a try. I bought this suction cup from Amazon for its articulating arms for curved surfaces such as hoods, doors, and windows and windshields. I just used a 3/8 drill bit and drilled it right down the middle of the handle.

I could have used a polarizer to see into the car better, but its just a quck test, so next time maybe.

Anyway, for about $80 total I'd rate this as a success as the $6 suction cup I had before just wasn't going to do it. The Cheesycam test I saw didn't have a safety strap backup, or at least I couldn't see one. I added that just incase of the unthinkable of my GH2 bouncing off the highway at 50mph. Yikes, what a thought. The suction on there is very powerful indeed but a backup plan doesn't hurt.

I'm not sure I'd lilke to go much faster than 50mph , though I'm sure it would hold...just started getting the creeps as I got up there in speed. I'm sure Hollywood could afford to trash a GH2 for a B-cam shot they had to have, but I can't as a hobbyist.

Have you considered a GoPro- definitely a more 'loseable' camera for these kinds of shots. Not too mention it's a lot lighter and less likely to fly off a suction mount.

Good point. If I was a serious filmmaker and doing this for money a GoPro would be a good idea.

ive used a geko with my gh1 and 20mm anchored down to another gopro suction cap just to be sure. works very well costs about the same if not abit less. haven't tried driving fast with it yet, ive only used it for slow shots =)

as for go pro, its nice to use for those hard to get wide angles, but i would much prefer to shoot with a gh just for the cleaner image.

The Delkin mounts are absolutely fabulous and super, super cheap. I've mounted a few different sized cameras and the GH2 with even the 14-140 would be fine. There's a few different options you can pick. I think I paid about 40 bucks for each of them and I've used them countless times. Work really well...

I was going to buy that very same Fat Geko as I liked its look and two suction cups but I didn't because I couldn't find tightening points were metal or plastic so I didn't trust it. I like the squat stubbiness of my DIY build, but that longer arm on the Fat Geko could come in handy. Thanks for the input.
