GH2 + canon FD lenses = awesomeness

The last video that I posted - http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthrea...GH2-w-terraquake-patch-and-stock-14-42mm-lens - turned out to be a disaster (no pun intended). Audio & video was out of sync, the stock 14-42mm lens was constantly hunting for focus, edits were slow, etc... I finally got a mixer with a USB interface to fix the audio sync problems - no more playing audio through a boom box  . I also ditched the stock panny lens and got a 50mm 1.4 and a 24mm 2.8 canon fd lenses w/ adapter. Here is the video, let me know what you think.

GH2 w/ driftwood orion v4b patch. A little color correction in post to bring out the black and adjust skin tone.

Distilled,

Nice video.

What technique did you use to light the subject without lighting the background?

Thanks.

Nothing fancy was done for the background. We filmed on a theater stage with a black curtain in the background and then in post I crushed the black levels enough to get that black background.

Nice work, I think the edit worked well with the one location. I like the shallow, drift in and out of focus look, but I felt like the video was out of focus more than it was actually in focus. It's one hell of a challenge keeping a wide open 50mm 1.4 in razor sharp focus on the eyes. Next time I'd try adding a bit more light and take it down a stop to help that.

Keep it up, the overall aethstetic of the video was good, nice work.

All good points, thanks for the feedback. I admit that it wasn't her best performance vocally but we were in a rush and didn't spend as much time on the audio as we should have. Erik - yeah it was a challenge keeping everything in focus and the little lcd on the camera did not help at all. I'm in a process of shopping for a field monitor that I know will help greatly with focus, framing, and lighting.

maybe it's my pc, but it looks out of sync with the vocals. I'm not a fan of the black backdrop look, however there are ways to make it more interesting by using small lights to create some depth. Otherwise the black backdrop reminds my of cheesy public access vids. But it's subjective of course, if it works for you, then thats all that matters.
