GH2 GH2 25p with Atomos Ninja

Now that we have true 25p on a gh2 (thanks to the 1.1 firmware) - is it now possible to record high bitrate 1080 25p footage using at Atomos Ninja?

I've seen the avisynth thread and all the discussion of fixing pulldown issues, but hopefully the 25p version won't have these issues?

Or are there other issues with the HDMI output that need fixing (these chroma jaggies).

Has anyone tried recording 25p output from a 1.1 GH2?

Yes we can :)

I have tried it and it works just fine. I have made a few test clips and had no problems. Only thing is that you must have the GH2 recording too.
This due to get the screen completely free of overlays (also when using autofoucus) and because of the levels shift that takes place.

Recording 25p works fine although the signal is transmitted via HDMI in a 50i wrapper.
Be aware, though, that as soon as you turn on the Ninja, you lose the EVF magnification feature on the GH2, which makes manual focusing difficult.

The new Ninja 2, announced at NAB, solves this issue in the sense that it has a much higher resolution monitor and focus assist features. It also has a lot of other new features (same as their Samurai).
Atomos says there will be an upgrade path available for current Ninja owners. I sure hope they are generous towards the owners of the original Ninja!

And the quality of the footage it's really higher with the ninja? Or it's better just to make some color correction (I think Atomos rec in a 4:2:2 color space)?

Recording directly in ProRes 422 (with the Ninja) has several advantages. In particular, you record directly in an editing codec. ProRes is ideal codec for editing and color grading (clearly better than AVCHD). Recording both in camera (SD card) and the Ninja also always gives you a backup.

Ninja 2 will apparently be also quite descent external monitor with focus assist and zebras etc, and it will have HDMI in and out. You will also be able to mark clips and set in and out points while viewing them on the Ninja itself or on a tv screen.
All this for under 1000 dollars.

Atomos has not yet announced on their website the Ninja 2 upgrade path. But at the end of this video the Jeromy Young, the CEO of Atomos, says that they have a special "thank you offer" for Ninja 1 owners: You can buy the Ninja 2 for 795 dollars - and you get to keep the old one too. Sounds pretty good!

Have anyone really compared the advantage between the Atomos footage and the Hacked GH2 on card? Those high bitrate hacked could have better results than the ProRes 422 right?
