Here's a comparison of what a frame from the footage that kicked this thread off looks like during a pan, versus footage I took at 1/50th...
I downloaded the MP4 file from Vimeo and imported it into a Premiere Pro CS5 25p sequence. At 100% magnification, I saw a prominent flicker on the edges of the potted plant as it scrolls across the frame, both at 25p and single-stepping through the frames. I've seen this distracting effect numerous times on high-contrast scrolling shots I've taken in daylight, particularly when shooting at high shutter speeds. What we need to see is is really slow movement of an object across the frame for more than 7 seconds...

Judging from the high-contrast vertical edges in the GH2_Strobe_issue.MTS frame shot, I think it's likely this strobing phenomenom is the same as the AF100 issue discussed in this recent thread:

If the strobing that people are seeing is really there, and if it's anything I think it could only be one of these...
1) The image in 24p is so sharp and crisp that the difference between frames is far more stark than we're used to, so it appears strobier. Perhaps solvable by using a soft lens and turning in-camera sharpening right down.
2) There's no frame ghosting down to noise reduction, so each image is more unique and contains less of any previous or after frame's data.
3) The camera is miscalculating shutter speed. Wouldn't be hard to test by mounting another camera on top and panning. Should be solvable by selecting a slower shutter speed, so as to perhaps hit the shutter speed you actually want.
So... I hope somebody out there can test #3) with a camera mounted on top. Would be VERY interesting to finally get to the bottom of the mysterious strobing.
rigby,
many many thanks for your answer. I totally agree with you and I must say my unit HAS to be defective. There is no chance whatsoever the footage I pull out would be ok. Far from it. I've posted here 3 frame grabs to show the kind of defect I am talking about. This is not motion blur, but sort of line-doubling that is all but all right or 24p like. I shot 24p, 50p, shutter 50 or 100.. little o zero improvement.
To whom might think "hey, this is a fence and that's what you get", I have to say I noticed the same defect on a black jacket my subject had on during a shooting. Going frame by frame you see a sort of "previous frame persistence" faded out. No camera I had in the past (including DVX100) had this.
There must be some defective units out there, mine is one of those. Yes there might be some setting I missed out, but where the hell that is I do not really know because I turned the camera inside out.

I uploaded it on a server

You can see this defect showing up even on the GH2 own lcd when panning, so much of it you can't miss it.
