This is a confusion... Can anyone explain? B. Green?

Does GH2 HDMI output 1080p24? Or no more than 1080i?

I can't explain because I don't have a GH2 yet and so therefore haven't been able to see or test anything. Maybe someone who has one, and has a monitor or television that reports the status of its input signal, can answer...

Nobody seems to know. Elsewhere on this forum you'll see speculation that the camera is presently being downgraded in just this area. I doubt it, but honestly, if a company could do a worse job with the marketing and release of a camera, it's kind of hard to imagine how.

The manual isn't 'that' clear. It says this only about HDMI monitoring:

"With HDMI output, you can monitor full high-definition quality (1920 x 1080 pixels) AVCHD motion pictures on the TV while recording."

Taking it word for word, that says to me that the output won't be 4:2:2, but compressed AVCHD.

It also says nothing in the manual about if it's 24p/50i while monitoring, only that during playback that you need to put it into HDMI AUTO mode for it to playback 24p.

"During [24P CINEMA] and [VARIABLE MOVIE MODE] playback, please set [HDMI MODE] to [AUTO]. For settings other than [AUTO], it cannot output at 24 frames/second."

The only thing we have, is Philip Bloom with his preproduction model saying that it automatically switches to 24p mode when you hit the record button, which also had the record overlay icon. We now have reports, and video proof while hooked up to a hdmi monitor/tv that the overlays have gone, but I can't remember seeing anywhere showing if it was definitely 24p...although I can't imagine otherwise, just I've not seen proof with a production model.

Wow, a crucial word that I missed. Thank you for pointing that out! I guess it is back to "awaiting confirmation" status for 24P HDMI monitoring.

Well, you've got the goods ;)

yea it's absurd-i work in a broadcast house, i got the Blackmagic card in front of me - but no one wants to help me fix the problem... nice 'friends' i got there..
well, i suppose bloom will save us all - (or wash our fantasies down the drain)
