GH2 + 16mm Tri-X B&W reversal trick

Thank you thank you thank you, Hunter! That is really nice. I can't wait to get my GH2 to try this. Perhaps this new "film stock" should get your name. Tri-X HR or something like that?

Hi Hunter, I tried out your settings at the weekend with my new (second hand) Gh2. Really pleased with the results, thanks so much for the tip. I did have some unrelated technical issues with my lenses, see the video description for more info.

Here's the clip :

When shooting in ETC mode, the effective frame size is 7.31*4.12mm according to this DVXuser posting. If one crops the frame from 16:9 to 4:3, it becomes equivalent to Super 8: 5.49*4.12mm vs. Super 8's 5.79*4.01mm. 16mm has a considerably larger frame size of 10.26*7.49 mm, or 12.52*7.41 in Super 16.

Without ETC, the frame size of the GH2 in 16:9 video mode is 19*10.7mm, the equivalent of a hypothetical "Super 23mm" film format.

So shooting without ETC should yield a better approximation to 16mm than shooting with ETC.

Looks great. The only thing that gave it away was the rolling shutter artifact. I'd love to try this with a tripod.

@tflak, I realize this is a very old thread, and I'm very new here and don't know how to sent a private message about this. I'm preparing to do a project using this great TRI-X B&W approach the Hunter has shared. After the 2x2.6 magnification for the focal length, I need something that approximates a 35mm and a 50mm, with the Panasonic 7-14 would accomplish. By now I reckon you've been there and done that with your 7-14 with the GH2, which is what I'll be using. Is there any footage available of that look. Or if not, how did it work for you? Did it look like a "normal" lens across it's range? Thanks in advance.
