GH2 GH2 - 1080p 60fps? Please help if you KNOW the answer

Dear DVXusers,

Could someone answer this question please. Can the GH2 actually record 1080p @ 60 or 50 frames per second. I seem to hear different opinions about this.

My understanding is that it can't. It records 1080i and then does some magical Panasonic re-wrap and it comes out as 1080p, right?

Please could someone answer this once and for all. Oh, and please only answer if you actually KNOW it is 100% correct.

Many Thanks, Prendi

Thanks for the info guys. I think I'm going to go with the GH2. I used it earlier in the year and it's a great camera. Now with these new patches, the image is just incredible.

For what I'm shooting, I would ideally be looking for 1080p at 60fps. But the only camera that does that is the FS100 and I've been very put off Sony due to the plastic crappy build quality (Bricked 2 EX1's in cold conditions). The AF100 simply can not handle highlights. I don't care what anyone says, it can't. Plus, I just learned that neither of these cameras can record 1080/60p to an external recorder, and that was the main reason to get these cameras.

So that leaves me with this inexpensive and over performing GH2. I think that they'll figure out 1080/60p pretty soon, so I'm going with that.

Once again, thanks for the info guys. Love this forum :)

Prendi,

I share your desire for 1080 60P, but realistically, it probably isn't going to happen for the GH2. If you follow 4/3 Rumors, it has been consistantly reported that the GH3 will conform to the AVCHD 2 spec which includes 1080 60P at 28Mb/sec. However, no release date has been reported for the GH3, so don't hold your breath for it. Get the GH2 now and start having fun!

Hey Ralph,

Yeah for sure, I am going to get one. I have a GH13 right now, an EX1 and a TS3Cine on order, so it's not like I'm waiting for the next bit of tech. I just wanted to share the fact that after a lot of research and watching countless videos from the cameras mentioned above, the GH2 seems to have a creamier, fuller image. That's pretty rad!

As for the 1080/60p, I think it still might happen, but I'm a smoker and can't hold my breath for that long, so I wont try :)
