GH13 GH13 Timelapser

I'm just using normal method mate, SD card.

Are you sure the timer should reset? As if not written? Is that normal?

Before recording the timer shows maximum recording time available. This could be

1) 30 minutes if PAL camera and limit not removed, or
2) Estimated maximum recording time left on card if it has <2GB free, or
3) Estimated maximum recording time for a 2GB file (camera can't span files in MJPEG mode)

Before recording it should display 1, 2 or 3.
During recording the timer should count up from zero.
After stopping recording it shoul go back to displaying 1, 2 or 3

Are you recording to the maximum 30 minutes? I've removed the 30 minute limit - seems to be a risk-free hack. I think I've had a few captures not record due to card filling up or battery power running out, but this has been pretty rare. Do very short takes save successfully?

When you say you're importing the files using the normal method, what software are you using? Or are you manually copying files from the card? Have you recorded files in MJPEG format and located them on the card previously - before the hack? I don't recall exactly were it saves the files off-hand, I would suggest using this to import your footage if you are using Windows: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?216893-PHOTOfunStudio-Replacement

Can you tell me exactly what settings you changed in ptool and what you changed them to?

Sorry if some of the questions seem very basic

Possibly, but I've used two different Class 4 cards with no issues. Might be something specific to your card. Are you sure you know where the MOV files are supposed to be? Have you used the footage importer? Have you recorded and retrieved MJPEG successfully before the hack or can you successfully record and retrieve MJPEG footage if you set your camera back to default settings?

Are you assuming that it isn't recording because it won't playback in-camera? Please try the footage importing tool. Most modifications to MJPEG settings will break in-camera playback - you can only playback on your computer.

I think we've got somewhere Jalad, it after reflashing firmware hack, it now appears to be creating MOVs.
Will report back asap. :)

Hello mate,

I think it's working, I recorded a 1 hour film and its made a 1.2 gig MOV file, I use the MOV file with GH13 Timelapser and the CMD program processes the file, however, the end video is a very, very pixelated movie that looks like something from a Commodore 64. Very blocky indeed.

Do you think the timelapser has anything to do with this, or will it be my recording method, as the original MOV file (when played with VLC), doesn't look pixelated or anything....

Right, all sorted lad, thanks for your help mate. (I genuinely didn't know there was a c64 mode, lol)...

Kudos to the coder! Excellent program...

I am very sorry for this dumb question . My GH1 is hacked with Black Powell v2 hack . How do I set the mpeg to record in 2fps ? thanks

Run ptool and open the GH1 firmware. Load the Black Powell v2 settings. Then, navigate to:

- Patches for end users
- MJPEG FPS
- 720p30 -> 720pXfps

Change this setting to 2, Save Firmware and reflash your camera.

Entirely up to you. You don't have to change any settings other than 2fps - though the default mjpeg quality settings do suffer in high detail scenes. As mentioned on the site it's a tradeoff between quality and maximum recording time. With the suggested settings on timelapser.net (table 4, maximum quality 160, 4:2:0, 1080p) you'll get just under an hour for most scenes. That's the settings I used for most, if not all of the timelapse footage in the demo video.

I still read conflicting information about whether MJPEG is upscaled 720p or not. Recording at 720p should give you a few hours, battery life permitting. Hit the display button to turn the screen off when you start recording and a fully charged battery should be able to manage it.

If I'm not mistaken, isn't the time limit for MPEG footage now something the hack can switch off? Would this enable longer recordings at higher quality settings?

Yes, sadly the 2GB file size limit still remains but I think this is something not likely to be ever resolved.

I'm on a Mac. Might this work through Wine which I used to install the GH13 hack? So far I can't find how to open the GH13 Timelapser in Wine though?
