Maybe a silly question for you experts out there. I am fairly new to all this and need your hlp.

I did the hack, took away the 30 min limit and am shootung footage at 2 fps. However the camera stops at 3h21m, which equals roughly 2Gb ... allthough there is a 8Gb card installed???

Did I miss something. How do I extend the time limit ?????

Many thanks in advance

Are you using AVCHD or MJPEG codec?
AFAIK, there is a file limit for MJPEG (I think it's 2GB). I never used MJPEG, but you can check it in user manual. Note that hack does not increase file size limit.

I am indead using MJPEG.... So this might be the reason. I find MJPEG "handier". Is the quality better in AVCHD?? Thanks a lot Crunchy

It depends what you need. AVCHD settings might give you sharper picture (at 1080p24/25). On the other hand, some are using MJPEG codec since they said that it's easier to use MJPEG footage with green screens (by applying the hack, of course). And, of course, there are differences in frame rates (I think that MJPEG takes 30FPS, while AVCHD takes 24/25FPS at the highest quality and 50/60FPS at some lower ones). Hope I haven't made a mistake, since I never tried anything else than AVCHD 1080/25p (50i) [it's important to have sharp and high-resolution footage for 3D clips]...

anyway thanks a lot. I will try again tomorrow with AVCHD and post the result. I am gardening a lot and would like to take 12 hours sequences which I want to compress into 3-5 mins, hence y need to get rid of the time limit. Thanks again

I hope that somebody will help you in finding the best way how to apply the highest possible AVCHD settings and 2FPS. Of course, you could use faster frame rates, but your SD card would be filled up pretty fast. Maybe you should buy time-lapse remote controller and take pictures instead?!?

Yep, timer remotes are definitely the way to go. That way, instead of 1080p, you have 12 megapixels to work with.

The mx2 controller from dynamic precision works great on my gh2 and gf1 but it is some dough. Though you could prob diy for cheaper.

Timer for time lapse

Timer for time lapse

Unfortunately I've actually been trying to find one, haha. If I do find one I'll let you know. And yes, that'd be a 4k timelapse haha.

There is a good affordable one from a chinese company called JCC -haven't found out yet how to get it since it is not on ebay.

I am worried about shutter problems when shooting stills.... 1 day of shooting at 2fps is 86.400 shots. !!! a life in a day for the shutter

How do i get 2fps in AVCHD???

thanks

To my knowledge you can't get 2 fps in AVCHD, I don't even know how you're getting it in MJPEG. Also, if you're using a video recording mode at any frame rate, the shutter does not actuate. But if you're shooting stills it will. However, when are you actually going to shoot 24 hours in a row?

you get the 2fps through the hack (PTool). There is one setting that allows you to give any fps between 1 - 60 fps -but only for MJPEG.

24hour - when you a filming a flower or a decaying dead bird (for example) it takes a while before something happens ;-) 3 hours is definitely not enough. My 86k shots were referring to the use of a timer.

Ah, hadn't played with that particular patch. I've mostly done timelapses of the sky and sunrises and such, which only take an hour or two, so I had not thought about a flower blooming and such.
