GH13 GH13 GH2 mixed with Jvc HDV captured to a mac in imovie

Ok I have again run into this problem. I shot documentary for an event and used GH13 & GH2 and in a tight spot hired a b roll guy with a JVC hdv camera. I don't have any DV ports on my laptop DV is pretty much dead on the pc now replaced by usb3.0

So this guy captured his footage onto his mac and after brought a hard drive my pc wouldn't read and then after MUCH trouble I finally got the about 15 gigs of .mov clips on a 32 gig flash usb stick.

Get home, on my Win 7 box they won't open or play on ANYTHING, not quicktime, not edius, not vegas.... if clicked it's just audio with no video.

Check codec with MediaInfo and it says (Apple Intermediate Codec)

I can not find Apple Intermediate Codec or a solution to this, and from what I remember when this happened once before, it is when someone does something stupid like a professional using IMOVIE to capture clips and hand off - and as far as I know imovie uses a weirdo crappy non compatible proprietary codec that is only playable on apple with imovie.

Can ANYONE tell me how to get these files playing or converted without having access to a mac now? Because of this I am very late on the project.

Thanks,

Yikes. Dude. Borrow a Mac or have the guy who gave you the stuff export it to a lossless codec or maybe download the free trial for Cineform and export Cineform Codec. I had a clip like that and I wound up just taking it to a friend's house and rendering it out lossless. I would prefer Cineform I guess. Good luck. AFAIK, no way to read that codec on a PC.

UGH.... I feared you were going to say that.

So I have access to a mac tomorrow but it doesn't have final cut on it..... can I do this without final cut?

You will need something that can read the file and allow you to choose the codec. And, yes, it is a closed design by choice, a screw the user codec.
I still think Cineform is the easiest, but if that doesn't work render out lossless, or, in a real pinch, use quicktime to play and export on the Mac. Other alternatives include exporting using quicktime to highest quality MJPEG. Personally, I would just pay someone to use their computer for an hour or two, if you need final cut, because it is such a pain.

I ended up rendering out to dvc pro 720 24 which looks grainy and nasty compared to my GH footage but oh well....
It took hours too.... for an hour of footage.... made me crazy and I got in a big fight about how I hate macs and almost walked off the project.

Herd, dude :)
Totally sympathize with DVC Pro. Surprised Cineform did not work.
