GH13 data rates

Hi,

I've just hacked my GH1, made a test clip, imported it to FCP just to make sure it was recording at 50Mbps but the clip properties shows 22Mbps instead!...

Can someone tell me what's wrong?

Thanks

this has been discussed at length in other areas...make a new test clip by locking your camera down pointed at very highly detailed bushes, grass, or trees or something similar, and those bitrates will get closer to the 50 you're hoping for. it's a variable bitrate camera, so more detail equals higher bitrate, less detail equals lower rates...try it out! :-)

Nothing is wrong. This camera uses a variable bit rate. Without the hack it has about a 17mbs max rate. With the hack, depending on which hack you use, you can get up to 80 something mbs. But to get High data rates with a variable bit rate you need lots of sharp focused detail in your shot. Like a big brick wall or trees. With extremely high detail shots the codec hack usually crashes and you have to remove the battery to reboot and you loose that shot. You probably are shooting a medium to low detail scene. I use a GOP 2, 80 mbs hack and when I shoot a person on greenscreen I only get codec levels of 18 to 24 mbs. Normal for variable codec. The green screen has no detail and is the majority of the pixels so the shot's detail average is medium to low. I wish it could be hacked to give us 80 mbs constant, but alas that is not what we have. But it is still quite good if used properly.

The rate changes from frame to frame. If you want to see it in real time download and install "splash lite". It's free. While you play your video, click right and choose "properties". In a small rectangle you'll see fps, real time bit rate, type of file. Make sure by default your mts and m2ts files are played by Splash Lite
As for the 22Mbps rate you got on your clip, that must be an average, which is not bad.

Thank you all for your feedback. I'll try to shoot some complicated stuff later today as you all pointed.
