GH13 card crashing and need some hack info clarification

Hi All

I have been shooting on my GH13 for a few months now and have recently been getting the "card failure due to write speed" error recently. I am using the Blackout 24p native patch v2 and the Reliable In-camera playback patch v2. The cards I have been using are Transcend 16gig class 6 cards.

I have a commercial shoot on sunday that they requested be shot on a DSLR @ 1080p24 and I'm worried that my cards will crash again. I just received a new ScanDisk Extreme 32gig class 10 card in the mail figuring it was my cards that were the issue. I have not tested this card yet. Should that solve it?

After panicking and re reading hack posts, I've confused myself... should multiple settings be loaded on a ini file? What happens if 2 of the settings conflict, like the 24p native setting if i were to use the Blackout 24p setting and also have the 75Mbps reliability patch loaded? My first thought is I should only have one of them loaded at a time.

What hack setting would you suggest? Should I modify the settings any further regarding bit rates and gop sizes? Thanks.

only one setting per card just have separate cards labelled with them to switch over to in an emergency. I have found the faster cards do help significantly. Though there are many contributing factors, to much detail with close to blown highlights can do it so try stopping down a bit. Sometimes throwing some diffusion filters(I use an ultra low con, and a black pro mist on most shoots), or filters of any kind in front of the lens helps as well. The other issues I have found is using electronic lenses with OIS on as well as auto focus can cause problems while manual lenses have none. But you can use the electronic lenses just turn most of the functions off if you are having problems.

these are just rough guidelines I go buy but even with my extreme class cards I still have failures every now and then, and when I run through this rough checklist I find the problem very quickly. Though I have an extreme pro card and I don't think I have had a card speed error on it ever.... crap I'm in for it now!

hope this helps!

You are welcome to try my Event patch which supports 24p and file spanning if the event is indoors.

Thanks Dr Dave I think I will have to give it a shot. I need something that will work and for some reason the Blackout patch was crashing my new ScanDisk class 10 extreme card during outside highly detailed scenes.

My event patch is for indoors. You can try it outdoors but lpowell's high reliability patch is better for brightly lit, highly detailed scenes. It really does depend on the source material. Outdoor scenes are very tricky with 24p.
