GH1 Strap rivet broken

2 weeks later Panasonic still has my cam and has not begun working on it.
They used to fix them in Texas and Illinios but now they just fix em in Ill and order parts
from Nebulon.

Damn I miss my camera, GH-1 is my fave but if Panasonic can't support it will have to swear them off for another 4/3rds er

my cams, 5dmk II, Panny-GH-1 (broken), Ricoh gx200, Fuji Fd31.
Lenses..more than I know

Going on one month and have been told that "parts have been ordered", two weeks ago
then again yesterday.

no return date.

As much as I love the Panny-cams, I guess Panasonic is an electronics manufacturer
not a company that specializes or supports cameras.

yikes! If I ever get my camera fixed and returned we will be looking at the GH-99

Exactly what happened to me. It took me over a month to persuade them it was a fault covered under warranty, and another 2 months wait for them to order parts, I began to realise my custom is better placed elsewhere. I got rid of GH1 and bought Canon 7D. More solid, has all the frame rates, and I sense better support as they've been doing it for years.

Apart from anything, at this price point the LAST thing you expect is for a camera strap rivet to snap off!! It should be the most solid thing on the cam..

Guys, may be simple screwdriver will be better solution to put all back?

Lol.. do you really think if this was all it takes, that you'd have so many people on this thread and so long waiting time for Panasonic to order parts? It's not a case of screwing it back in unfortunately :)

I mean that you can remove outer shell and place all back.
It is not that hard.

Here is the procedure.
I am sure it has been posted before but I will repost anyway.
If you are careful you may not need to disconnect the flat cables.
My friend fixed both GH1 cameras - mine and his - following these instructions.

I would say print out the pictures and bring the camera with the pictures to a phot repair shop.
The whole thing takes about 10 minutes, although the glue should be given time to set for an hour or so.

Good luck.

Sometimes it gets attached to a magnet inside the camera.

Good luck.

hi again,
today i openned the camera, but i couldnt find that "metal part" in the camera :(
there is a main board and many empty spaces, little holes in the camera, there is no sound when shaking, it could be in any where!,,
PLUs i thought that red clue is just shown as an extra thing! but no, factory assembly has it also for both sides! even that clue+screw system, how can it be?? why panasonic didint make the screw prt just half cm more! there is place there?!

uff

If it is not shaking it got stuck to a magnet inside the camera.
There is little danger that it will dislodge and short some circuit.
So just find another nut of the same size and take care of the lugs.
Good luck.

My right side rivet finally broke (was lose for quite some time) while my brother was making a video of a ship. Luckily, he was hold the camera otherwise it would have dropped to the bottom of Gulf.

Since, I still have couple months of warranty left, I'm debating whether to send it to Panasonic or try my hands on fixing it myself. Anybody has a recent experience with the turnaround time for warranty repairs ?
