Gh1 Stills Image

This is straight out of the camera with no effects or color correction. Using the stock lens. Did this a couple of days ago and I thought it looked pretty good. GH1 sure looks good to me.

I actually love the gh1 for stills, I've been extremely impressed so far - and I come from shooting full-frame on the Canon 5D. I shoot a lot for various stock agencies, so technical image quality has to be *spot* on. And the gh1 hasn't disappointed yet:

The variable aspect rations are incredibly useful, sharpness and detail is just as good as (and in many cases, better than) most APS-C cameras. I'll say this - the kit glass is no slouch at all. My suggestion is shoot RAW, and you'll be blown away by what you can get from such a tiny package.
Those are some really nice photos.

That quote was after reading the first page, little did I know that everyone has uploaded some terrific photos. I honestly didn't have much respect for the GH1 as a still camera and have used it as a film camera 90% of the time but you guys gave me a new found respect for its still capabilities.

thanks! as for it being too expensive- I agree with you only because you can't use autofocus. I would gladly pay the asking price for a m4/3 version with autofocus (and video autofocus)... you don't even need to give me ois (not included on this version anyway). the zoom range is just awesome... no other lens that i know of has the same range + 2.0 or lower fstop throughout... love it. can't wait to try out the 35-100

Very nice... got any useful links for learning how to do HDR?

Thanks. Hmm not really. I learned from books, magazines, and experimentation. I am sure there is a lot of stuff online though. What I am doing isn't just HDR. It is an HDR image that is then tone mapped to my liking. Really it is a tone mapped image but I call it HDR for short I guess. HDR can be applied for many different things. I probably go through about 8-10 steps bouncing between photoshop and tone mapping software before I get finished with one.

Here are a few stills I've taken with the GH1. The Praying Mantis one I used a c-mount lens.

I think the GH1 is a great still camera.

What lens did you get the moon with and do you have a bigger version somewhere?

I used a Sigma 75-300mm zoom. It's an old Olympus OM mount lens I got for like $60.
I shot it using the optical zoom function (not the digital zoom), so I think it's an 8 megapixel image vs. a 12 megapixel. I used to have a huge version on Flickr, but my Pro Account lapsed and I can only display "Large" images, not the original uncropped stills. So, there's a slightly larger version here:

That seems optically pretty good especially for a zoom...I tried a moon shot with an ooolllld vivitar 300mm prime for nikon and had a lot of chromatic aberration.
