GH1 smooth transition in Shutter Priority mode Manual lens

Not sure if others have noticed when using manual lenses in Shutter priority mode how smooth the aperture adjusts. If i set the lens aperture to a midway point, set the ISO to 320 and pan from a light area to a darker area the transition is so smooth i don't notice the adjustment. Usually with most cameras the frame brightens or darkens in jumps, it's actually smoother than my HMC 152 and quite fast to. I've mostly been shooting in full manual mode but it gets awkward and jerky with the small form factor so this could be an alternative for this type of shot.

Anyone else played around with this? Was it always this smooth before the hack?

only possible downside would be that when the shutter speed changes, so does the movement of your subject...motion blur vs. sharp and jerky?
 
Shutter speed is constant in shutter priority mode, isn't that what it's for. I have it locked on 1/50, only the aperture changes unless i'm missing something.

I'm talking about the PASM Exposure Motion picture selections.

Ummmm.... maybe you are right, the shutter must be changing as there is no aperture to control other than the manual one on the lens. Funny how the LCD screen still shows 1/50 though.

yeah...wierd...it does stay at 1/50 or whatever you set it to...hmm i'll have to try it tomorrow with a moving subject to see how extreme the motion differences are
 
I guess that explains the smoothness with the electronic shutter changing rather than a mechanical aperture. Bummer, thought i was on to something.

Damn DVSLR's , so different to proper video cameras.
 
man, you're right...we kind of have to throw away everything we knew about video, and start learning photography haha...suppose this is the way we SHOULD have done it in the first place :-) i'm right there with you man.
 
Most of my video is shot from within a waterproof housing mounted on a steadycam, so AUTO EVERYTHING mode is my friend, don't have time for button fiddling when bouncing around sidesaddle on the back of a jetski on the ocean....haha

I just want the GH1 for the landbased beauty shots and interviews.

Certainly learning heaps about photography though...can't be all bad.
 
beauty shots and interviews are wonderful to shoot with a GH1...i'd like to see some of your work. i havent done any sports stuff yet (mostly at home stuff on my vimeo), but lately i've been looking for more action type stuff to shoot. need some inspiration!
 
Just click on my website in the signature there are about 100 videos in there of ocean events i've shot. My shutter is at 1/250 or 1/500 mostly now as i software stabilize extensively in post so need blur free frames.

That's my ocean cam you see on my shoulder in the photo on the left.
 
OH MAN!! didn't know that was you haha...i've watched your stuff a ton! can't remember how i ever found you, but i did, back in 2008 or something...glad to talk with you here, i'm actually a fan of yours...guess i should click those signatures more often.
 
Actually i'll be over your way in August, have some events in NY and San Fran to do, bloody long plane trip from OZ, hope i can do some editing in flight.

Anyone else confirm if the shutter speed changes in shutter priority mode even though the LCD stays constant at 1/50 when using manual lenses?? I still get a nice motion blur which seems to indicate slow shutter speed?
