GH1 Shipping Today! According to Panasonic Sales Rep

Hey guys, been playing with the awesome GH1, so it's been a relief to not have to check this thread daily.

To all of you that haven't got your GH1's yet. It's been said before, however I'm sure it's good to hear again. The wait we all, and others are still being put through is BS, however when you get your GH1, your going to be blown away by it. Omg, I can't tell you how it's so good to not have to deal with 35mm adapter crap and actually have a large clean sensor that is near noiseless in the mid ISO triple digits.

Funny I got an email from a Supervisor at PD telling me that I was now going to be in the 36th from my 49th position for GH1 on my June 23rd order. I laughed and thought, that wasn't the position it was feeling like they had me in; if you know what I mean. Ouch!

Ok guys, on to what your asking,

The eye cup is from a Sony Professional Beta camera system I owned in the 90's. I have been connecting that to these small cameras since the VX1000 days with o rings to make it snug. The Handle grip is from a S16mm rig from way back. Over the years you collect all sorts of pieces and parts that come in handy...

Man, that looks like a serious weapon. Congrats on your new cam. Looking forward to some footy from you.

So question. Has anyone purchased from "time2envy" on Ebay? I'm getting varied reports. They have really good feedback on eBay, but I've heard sprinklings of unhappiness from some people. Are they legit, does anyone know?

They seem to have GH1's available (although at a higher cost).

Any help would be appreciated!

time2envy is ibuydigital.com

I bought from them (ibuydigital.com) to see what the experience would be like. I wouldn't recommend it. They seem to have stock -- but you're going to most likely get a PAL camera.

We talked about them back starting on post 1235 in this thread. It's page 31 for me, but I have the software set to display 40 posts per page.

Looked on Crutchfield's website and they don't even have the Panasonic GH1 as a product?

That's correct. Those who got it before got it because somebody called, and they happened to have them in stock. Then 38 or so other people called and ordered them. They've sold over 40 without ever listing them on their site.

PAL? Damn. I emailed them and they said the cameras they were selling were US/NTSC based ones. No dice?

Give me a few days and I can tell you.

What I know is that I bought from iBuyDigital.com and got a PAL camera. I RMA-ed it and they're supposed to be sending NTSC.

But they're liars.

I ordered on July 1st, and my camera shipped "within 1 or 2 business days" -- I got it on July 21st.

I RMA-ed it and asked when I would get my replacement camera. They said it had already shipped and send me the number for the camera that was in-transit to them.

I called them on July 30th (The day they received the PAL camera back) and asked what they'd do to ensure I had a camera by August 6th. He said he would send out a camera the same day, express shipping, 3-5 day.

The camera shipped this morning. Ground. Expected Monday the 10th. (That's 3-5 day at least).

So let me get it and see if they even have NTSC cameras before you order from them.

My GH1 is bouncing around on a UPS truck somewhere between Ill and Wisconsin as I write this. (10:36pm in Wausau Wisconsin) I get mine tomorrow. It sure has been fun reading all your comments these last several months. Soon I may be able to post a short flick or two. I am going to be using my 7 manual Zuiko lens and the kit lens ofcourse. Can't wait to give it all a try. Peace

I received my GH1 from Crutchfield last night. I too am relieved to not have to watch this forum every 10 minutes of the day. I wish everybody good luck on getting this fine camera.

PappasArts - that is a nice little setup there. I was thinking the pistol grip was from an old s8mm or something but that is a nifty idea. The eye cup looks like it was made for it. I'll have to keep my eyes out for something similar. How is the sensor with that eyecup? Are you still able to view through the LCD when you move away from the viewfinder?

Are you still able to view through the LCD when you move away from the viewfinder?

There is an option to switch the auto-sensor thing off. I have the sensor disabled, because I love to put the camera down by my stomach -- rolleiflex style, and when I do that the flip-out screen shuts itself off.

So far I have been finding myself use the viewfinder more. I guess it is something I am more used to but I am glad I got the option.

I'm browsing a local news site, and there's a VANNs side-banner ad for the GH1. Freaky the stuff these web peeps do these days.

Got an e-mail last night from Amazon about the GH1: "We're happy to inform you that the items you requested are now available to order from Amazon.com!"

And, indeed, it looks like some are available from a vendor called "Big VALUE Inc."

...for $2,499.

Say what you will about market forces, supply and demand, perceived value, etc., but jacking the price up almost 70% over RETAIL pricing is pretty outrageous.

Anyway, if anyone is desperate/crazy/rich enough, last time I checked there were 4 in stock at that price.
