GH1 Shipping Today! According to Panasonic Sales Rep

Got an e-mail last night from Amazon about the GH1: "We're happy to inform you that the items you requested are now available to order from Amazon.com!"

And, indeed, it looks like some are available from a vendor called "Big VALUE Inc."

...for $2,499.

Say what you will about market forces, supply and demand, perceived value, etc., but jacking the price up almost 70% over RETAIL pricing is pretty outrageous.

Anyway, if anyone is desperate/crazy/rich enough, last time I checked there were 4 in stock at that price.

That price makes no sense to me even when you factor in the greed factor. At that price point, wouldn't it make more sense to just buy the Canon for a few hundred more? Now if you're talking $1800, then we can do some business. That's a fair markup.

Hi guys...Got my GH1 today...I got it from Samy's camera in Sta. Ana,CA. Two weeks ago I've decided to put a deposit for this thing since I figured every other stores would probably have a very long line of waiting list. And when i called samy's i was fourth on their wait list but they didnt have a clue at that time when will they have the camera in their store..so i figured "what the heck,i better get in line somewhere to get the camera at least in this store they have a short wait list". And in case the camera would be available elsewhere,i can always cancel my order and get refunded with my deposit...To my surprise i got a call from samy's last monday saying they have the camera already, and today was my only free day to drive up to their store(i live in san diego)and purchased this sweet thing....I asked them if they have more in stock and they said that mine was the last one...I guess at this time, because of the camera's scarcity, they dont have them in stock and only gets delivery based on the number of units on their pre order list.....So i think, for those who doesnt have the camera yet and way behind the line on some other stores, maybe you can try putting a deposit in samy's and who knows, you might get lucky as i am and get your camera in two weeks or maybe less.

If you do,try looking for Ken. He's a very good sales person there and might give you also a good deal on some other items(I bought from him the GH1,matthews M25 tripod, Sandisk Extreme III 16gb SDHC and a couple of step rings, I got it all for a VERY good deal)

Well, I just noticed the price has gone down to $2,449.95. Maybe after a couple of weeks of similar price reductions it'll be down to $1800.

(and about four weeks after that you'll prolly be able to walk into your neighborhood Best Buy and buy as many as you want)

Hi! I ordered my GH1 last week and it arrived today, from Vistek.ca. Shipping took only 1 day from Toronto to Vancouver, CAN. Price 1799 + 89 (PST) + 0 (GST). Great deal!

For whom it may be useful, I got my GH1 out of the blue on Thursday. I was one of the 6/22 Panny Direct orderers, back when I believed they had them in stock (hah!)

I hadn't been in contact with Panasonic at all until this last Monday. I was super polite, told them i had been following the situation on this forum, and the rep told me I could be looking at October potentially. 3 days later my camera arrives. Not going to question it, just enjoy it.

Aside from the it not being fair part I am so glad to see some lucky people are getting their cameras with little to no wait time (2 weeks.) Very good!

Greetings, all - this is my first post, but I've been really appreciating the discussions and information here for a few months now. I am in Australia and have secured a GH1 from Adencamera in Canada - they are just waiting for the money to arrive!

I picked up the fact that they had stock from a post in Dpreview and haven't seen a post here yet - so thought you might like to know. Their website shows "limited availability" and, as I had to transfer funds directly to their bank, they sent me a photo of the camera as proof that they had put one aside for me. Sorry - but I didn't ask how many they had left.

There is stock in the local store here, I just couldn't afford the premium put on by Panasonic for Australian buyers (mentioned in other posts).

Cheers for now - I'm really looking forward to sharing experiences once it arrives!

Peterd,

I'm here in Atlanta, GA. I too was interested in Adencamera in Canada. I spoke to them in length about the GH1 on the 8th. I came very close to ordering from them until they told me they only accepted bank wire transfers, which is the least safe method of payment. I sure hope you get your camera and please post if it is or is not a grey market camera.

Hey peterd. Welcome to the forum. I don't want to rain on your parade but I believe you're in a PAL country and a Canadian camera is likely to be an NTSC camera. I just hope you took that into account. You might want to confirm with Aden that the camera you're getting is appropriate for your situation.

From a call to Panasonic Direct this morning, the word on my 6/22 order is that it is scheduled to be "loaded out" August 17, to be delivered by 8/22 "at the latest."

6/22- 8/22

I hope others waiting will find this info helpful. Good Luck!

6/4-8/22 last I heard.

Good thing I got one from Mike's camera middle of last month and canceled it.

Still I'd be stoked on 7/22-8/22 if that's true.

I highly doubt that they'll start shipping anything before September. On a separate note, I talked with a sales rep at Cruthfield and according to her, they are expecting new shipment of GH1 at their warehouse on Sep 15.

Has anyone looked into time2envy and the bundle they are selling with the GH1:

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Panasonic-D...a285a940&_trksid=p4295.c0.m299#ht_8534wt_1165

I called them today and even recorded my call to verify that they were selling NTSC/English Menu/US warranty/non-grey market GH1s. They confirmed all of these things, but I'm still on the edge because of some of the things I've read about time2envy.

Any thoughts?

Looks good but why would you pay almost $500 over retail ? Unless and until you REALLY need it right now, I would suggest to wait for few weeks.

Let me know if you pull the trigger on it. It's probably a bit overpriced, I'd guess there is at most $200 bucks worth of additional gear, of questionable quality.

I'm not going to pull the trigger. I called PayPal and they basically said if a dispute came up with Time2Envy, they'd go by everything that's written on the listing on eBay. That means they can sell me a grey market camera even though I have a recorded call with Time2Envy confirming the camera has a US warranty and it's not grey market. Their listing on Ebay is not specific about any of these points.

I also called AdenCamera and they sell the GH1 with a Canadian Warranty, which according to the Panasonic Rep, won't be valid in the US. Also, they have only one GH1 left.

My best and safest bet is to wait for a US version from an Authorized US Seller.
