GH1 Shipping Today! According to Panasonic Sales Rep

Ordered a Nikon D300 with a fantastic lens after canceling my Amazon order. Panasonic lost me as a customer forever. I will never bother again.

Saaby I got money on you getting a borked g1 with an old nikon lens that doesn't fit and has lumix written it in sharpy, bundled with a panasonic cordless phone battery.

Sorry...mine wasn't Panasonic Direct. Mine was iBuyDigital.com -- one of these scam shops in Manhattan that sells gray market cameras, and often "delays" your order for days or weeks if you don't add on overpriced accessories.

They claimed they had the camera in stock (They didn't) so I took a calculated chance and ordered from them. This was on July 1st...so under normal circumstances this would be awful lead time, but if I get my camera tomorrow...than the risk will have been worth the reward. We shall see.

Ben_B: I don't think I'll get a G1, but I might get a GH1 like the one that popped up in this thread around pages 14 and 15 I think it was.

I am digging the metal body (magnesium alloy under the rubber) on the Pentax...they have really good build quality.

Hey all, camera just came in!

Ordered June 3rd from Panny website. I was Shopatroned. The camera shipped July 16th and I did not receive a tracking number until I saw they charged my card so I called for it on June 20th. Camera arrived June 20th.

Okay that my story, now I'm going to pour over the manual and shoot some stuff. You aren't going to see my first shot as it was ****. Now I understand Ben B perfectly. :)

If you can direct me to where that info is, I'll take a look.

My stuff is informal for my needs. examples to try.

1 Rerender codec 10x in editing software. compare generations.

2 Zoom in on aliasing stairstepping 1st generation - 10th generation.

3 Green screen shoot tests.

Maybe Pappasarts \, or Barry, can give you definitive test setup?

thanks

Nicely cut video. I never thought car washing would be interesting especially a dude washing the car. Anyway, I have a question about the shot with purple flower. When you focus the background was that manual focus or auto? how easy to use the focus ring for manual, any overshooting?

Manual focus, not with the kit lens. Easy for me but I have lots of practice with manual focus (not nearly as much as some friends of mine though.) I had no follow focus for that shot and a crappy tripod, hence the shakiness. No focus assist while recording is very annoying. I simply got focus on both places while not rolling, remembered where on the lens barrel it was (using a 'real' one, with markings, not an infinetly turning one like kit,) turned the screen to the side and crouched off to the side of the tripod (as if I had a follow focus.) Pretty straight forward, just turned from the two spots on the lens I had memorized as he walked into frame.

Lol and if you want to post that comment on vimeo and I'll answer it their so I can jump back to top of group feed I'd appreciate it ;)

Shot 720/60p, so no need for pulldown removal. Reverse telecined by just dropping in FCP timeline @ 24fps.

Technically "removing pulldown" refers to removing the pulldown that was done in camera to embed 24p in a 60i stream in order to get fully non interlaced 24p. Anything else produces acceptable footage natively, unless you're set on converting to 24p, in which case the easiest way to do 720p/60 is to just drop it in a 24p timeline, but there are other ways that sometimes are better but more difficult, and also can be applied to the 30p footage from MJPEG.
