GH1 Shipping Today! According to Panasonic Sales Rep

Yes I am serious. I'm talking about failure to deliver sufficient quantities to meet demand, which they couldn't do even after 2 years of the Wii being on the market. They have one major model to manufacture and couldn't make enough of them.

Nintendo also publishes their own games. They also make the Nintendo DS/DSi. Slow down man, you're way off. Perhaps you're not even factoring the 3-1 kid to Gh1 owner ratio. There has never been a time when the DS hasn't met needs, combined selling over 766k, just in the states. And the Wii has been available for well over a year and half, no wait where I live; stacked to the roof in every Best Buy around. They were short on demand for one holiday and were hard to get, but not impossible for the second round of holidays. But whatever I digress. This form is about the Gh1.

BTW, my retailer's getting theirs from J and R, should be top of list, and I'll keep y'all posted when I hear movement/trickle/death rattle.

Okay, so Shopatron charged my card on Thursday. I didn't receive and email or anything from them since. I just got off the phone with them and they said that the camera has shipped. I had to ask for a tracking number and they gave it to me.

Good news. As of 6:20 this morning, it's in town. I'll probably get it today! This really does feel like Christmas in July.

So for anyone who has been charged, if might be worth calling and seeing if there is a tracking number. I don't think that the emails are going out. At least mine didn't.

Also, for what it's worth, the people at Shopatron have always been really nice to deal with. Maybe that's why Panasonic used them, because the last three times I've called, they always seem to try and help.

Grats man! Lol wow I guess maybe I'd have gotten my shopatron order, day after yours, by now? Sorry if I took anyone's camera! But then again I moved some people up one on Henry's and Panny direct lists....also I leave on Wed for NYC...and I have my camera.

Think it was transitioning back stop bringing it up! Oh crap I just did...ummmmmm...

GH1 good! Panasonic BAD! Shopatron THE WORST! Woo!

Congrats; so I wonder where us June 23rd people are on the list....

I'm now in the 28 Days Later stage today from my day I ordered!

So man landed on the moon successfully and failed the assassination of Hitler on this day.....

Maybe my GH1 could ship, and make this historical day complete! ;-/

My order was June 3rd, so it'll be a month and a half if it comes in today.

I'm hoping that Panasonic has ironed thing out by now. It seems like a lot of orders are being filled lately. Maybe you won't have to wait as long.

You are correct on the Nintendo DS. So they have 2 or 3 products, excluding games. Games are easy to manufacture so I'm not talking about those. Just electronics. They should be ashamed of themselves that they can't manufacture enough of all of the their 2 or 3 products.

I'm also not talking about the last year. How about the first 2 years the Wii was out? All over the country you couldn't find them.... for 2 years! And yes, they were near impossible to get for the 2006 and 2007 holiday seasons. 2008 was less difficult to find, but still in short supply. It's a total failure to deliver.

I for one would have bought a Wii had they been available when I was considering getting one. But it wasn't and I still haven't bought one even though they're available now. So because they failed to provide a supply to meet the demand they lost a sale. How many more people out there like me are there? Imagine how much money Nintendo lost by not making enough.

Now imagine how many people are going to say "screw Panasonic I'm going to get a Canon 5D or a Nikon D90 or a Pentax K7 or some other camera, or I'll just wait for the next DSLR that shoots similar video"? Panasonic, like Nintendo, is just hurting themselves. They're going to lose a lot of money because they aren't delivering. And it all comes down to proper market research, research focus groups, and analysis. It really baffles me how they can't get it right.

Is this thread still about the GH1, or do I go to Nintendo USA to find out about who's gotten their damn camera?

PappasArts said:
Agreed! I could give a F*ck about Nintendo, Wii's or anything other than the GH1 in this thread...

Keep it on topic..

It was being used as an example in the discussion of Panasonic's failure to deliver.

Fingers Crossed and knocking on wood all around the house....

Update on the G1 added to my order fiasco:

So far I have had the charge to my card refunded; and now I'm talking with a Panasonic E-commerce supervisor who is getting that G1 out of my order. I was told that my order got thrown into a G1 request bin, and so it was added to my existing GH1 order. The supervisor is extracting that G1 just to make sure it doesn't start the fulfillment process all over again. As of now my order still show's G1 and GH1; I am checking it periodically for my own sanity to see my GH1 order return back to normal...

Someone with electrical engineering experience should order all the parts for a GH1 off the parts page, see if they ship, and start building the damn things. lol.

This is pathetic, my office faces the road and I keep watching. I've seen six UPS trucks drive by. I haven't been this excited since my parents got me an NES when I was eight.

Finally got a tracking number from shopatron!! OMFG... (June 4th order)

I'm canceling my May 3rd J&R now to help the line there...

Bitter sweet.

It is so exciting isn't it? I'm glad I don't have to be that schmuck who got his camera when you guys didn't for too long...I used to hate that guy!

I just called we're-a-giant-scam.com to see what was up, and see if they'd drop the battery from my order (Which is not OEM, and isn't going to work with the camera...pretty sure anyway...buy buying it and returning it was a cheap way to get them to actually ship my camera). She claims that the packing form printed today, and that I'll get a tracking number tonight, and that it will arrive tomorrow. We'll see...

Panasonic is losing money worldwide precisely because of low demand for their products. To make the problem even worse the products that people want they are not making enough of. This is a corporate problem and simply tells me that the executives are completely out of touch with market needs. In terms of cameras this is not the first time a wildly popular Lumix product has been unattainable... for months or years.
