GH1 Shipping Today! According to Panasonic Sales Rep

The woman I spoke with at Panasonic was Jolene... she is supposed to give me a call back today.

She said she was going to send out a couple emails to find out what is going on.

Yeah I was supposed to get a call back last week. Didn't! Then I got to a supervisor and learned that Panny Direct orders are secondary to Dealers and corporate purchase order fulfillment. There was never any point to order from Panasonic direct; it was always the last to one to get fulfilled. The draw back is, now that the pre-order lists are now so long that no cameras for anyone putting in a order today for a long long time. If I had made my order last month with a B&H etc, I would have it by now. Got screwed by Panasonic.

.

"OH NOES B&H IN STOCK!!"

lololol

just laughing at that script that guy wrote. b&h isn't really in stock.

Okay, sorry that I have no updates for the camera being in stock. I missed out on the B&H order while it said "In Stock" earlier last week. Actually my order went through but immediately its status was listed as "backordered." So I called and canceled it and kept my order with PannyDirect. Now I'm thinking that was stupid because I could have stayed in line at B&H and gotten it way sooner but whatever.

Anyway, here's some humor to lighten up the anxiety over this stupid situation. I decided to use that bing.com cash back shopping thing recommended earlier at J&R (where bing advertises 5% cash back) to order the Zoom h4n and a few SDHC cards. Went to open a shopping account with bing and here's what I got:

Microsoft.jpg

Anyway, sorry for the rant. Hope Panasonic gets these cameras moving asap.

Edit: Forgot to tell ya, thanks for that script! It is definitely handier than refreshing manually!

well there's a used GH1 on ebay with starting bid of $2000 and buy it now for the low price of $2500. Any taker? motherfvcker got this camera from who knows where.

83% rating, and blames downturn in business as the reason selling...Hmmmm

If i was thinking I would have put 'I CAN HAZ GH1?' and filled out the order POST/Headers automatically with my b&h account. That or cry myself to self.

I have however added code to sms my phone if it does go into 'In Stock'. Which is sad, i know.

For those with AT&T and a gmail account...

I tried both of those scripts and neither of them seem to work. I'm using Mac OS X 10.5.7. I saved the code in a plain text file named bh_gh1_alert.py on my desktop. Double clicked on it and Terminal opened up. Nothing happened. I waited a few minutes and still saw no results. How do you get them to work?

EDIT: Here's the results from Console from each time I tried it.

Not a mac guy but appears its not able to run the script at all try this in order...

1. try adding
Code:
#!/usr/bin/python
as the first line of the file.
2. I tested with python 2.6 but 2.5+ should work, if in doubt update to 2.6.*
3. Also, Try running directly from terminal.
4. Try 'chmod 777 the_filename.py' too. might need to use 'sudo chmod 777', not sure. Macs are too shiny for me.

Keep me updated.

Sorry to disappoint you, but no it's not going to work.

Your only option is to explain the situation to the seller and have him cancel this transaction (mutual withdrawal on Ebay) and have him relist it. He will still have to pay relist fees (not much, unlike final value fees probably ~$60 which he will get back if you go through the mutual withdraw thing on Ebay).

Since you didn't pay yet, if you want to play dirty, insist that he does that for you or else...... Which is why my listings always require immediate payment ;)

So the seller was awesome to work with, he let me re-purchase the camera using bing and sure enough I saved 160 off the auction. Bringing my grand total after free express shipping to 1840. So, as far as I'm concerned that was totally worth it. Shipped tomorrow via express mail, (did i mention free express mail? I know I did I just think that was totally awesome) should arrive on friday.

Also used bing to buy the external mic through adorama.

Thanks again for that info wowubbzy. That made the hit I took much easier to bare.

I made the change, then ran by double clicking, but it didn't work. I tried "chmod 777 bh_gh1_alert.py" and "sudo chmod 777 bh_gh1_alert.py" and neither worked. The sudo command did ask for my Mac OS user password, which is normal for the sudo command. Still no dice.

EDIT: I installed Python 3.1 and at least got a result, but there's an error. Here's what happens in Terminal:

MacBookAir:~ mike$ /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/3.1/bin/python3.1 bh_gh1_alert.py
File "bh_gh1_alert.py", line 39
print "Checking stock...",
^
SyntaxError: invalid syntax

The "^" is actually right under the second quote mark in "Checking stock..."

DO NOT USE Python 3K. v3 and v2 aren't compatible, like at all.

Install python 2.6.* and try again, always run from terminal while debugging: so no double clicking on the desktop/whereever. You env make be broke. Did you try on ubuntu?
