GH1 Shipping Today! According to Panasonic Sales Rep

here's my last post on this thread. i had to look elsewhere for a camera. too bad. i had orders in for for the gh1 for almost 2 months (i was with sh@$atron, panny direct, adorama, canada orders, etc), nobody could deliver in time. hopefully when this shoot is over in the fall i can walk in a store and pick one up without all this stress. ciao babe

That´s harsh but quite understandable!

I´m a Canon 40D shooter and on the waiting line for the GH1 also after all the Kohli tests and raves.
I can get the 60D and get both cameras for the price of the 5D II without a lens. I already have some FD primes and ordered the EF adapter so the GH1 is very exciting.

It would be great if there was a GH1 Firmware upgrade to 24mbit on 1080p or something along those lines but not holding my breath. I consider it a pretty good 720p cam.
 
From Europe here. Ordered it during last week, company ordered with Panasonic, came in on Friday, should be here by tuesday. I suppose that makes up for the 30m limit we get, haha.
 
Let me get this straight, you ordered last week and are getting it early this week and I ordered on June 4th and am being told August at the soonest but probably later? Wtf?

Your being told august now?

The GH1 has been out since April, and this is how the USA roll out is going down. Something is up! I get a feeling that there holding back to silently fix something before a massive USA release. This wouldn't be the first time!


I was told by PannyDirect around July 24th! Is that who you ordered with?

So it seems. I was suprised myself, after reading threads like these. Looks like the story is different for the PAL release of the GH1.
 
I bet you are right about them doing a fix because it seems they would have released more by now. I'm not sure if this has happened in the past with them though.
 
Yeah, I'll agree that I find it a bit strange. With NTSC models in Japan for months now and apparently readily available for purchase, I can't see why there's such a stand-still for US models.

I also would love to be optimistic about why, but they released a heap of cameras already fully knowing what the video mode would produce under certain situations? Can't see why they would delay US release to actually fix this instead of shipping them out as is and releasing a firmware update later.

Though, who knows. I'd be throwing rocks as well if I really needed a camera right now.
 
Sometimes what happens is a shipment is in transit when the call goes out to delay production to update a circuit board, a circuit, etc that has come to their attention not working up to spec. So instead increase the amount of product out in the market with this issue ( especially a new roll out market like the USA ). They will take those in transit and do that modification in a facility where the shipment is going. They will open every box and fix and re-QC with a crew of techs! I know of two video camera situations just like this that got dealt with in the same manner. It feels like the same thing; just i am not in the knowing as I was in those situations. However, I and all of you are kept in the dark just wondering and waiting.
 
I know I sure could use one right now. pfft oh well no use in worrying about it. It will come in due time. Just would like to be making some $ with it now. ;)
 
Man... this is so strange...

I was charged for my June 5th sh**atron order on July 1st... No further information arrived. I talked to them last week and they were like "yep you'll get your tracking number any moment now"....Nothing.... I call this morning and they are totally backpeddling "don't know what's going on and why you've been charged... we don't expect any shipments of this camera until mid AUGUST. We'll credit your account and put you back on the backorder waiting list"

Good Friggin Greif!! Something is totally amiss with this release...
 
Just to add some important information to this discussion.


Panasonic’s ZS3 is still not available easily in the US and B&H has finally started carrying their TM300 and HS300 camcorders. Those products should have been out much, much earlier in the US. The LX3 has been out for nearly a year now and reputable dealers still have trouble keeping them in stock especially the black version. Panasonic’s not the only company doing this; Sanyo has not released the HD2000 to the US yet.
 
According to JR they will be getting around 200 GH1 next week but not sure how accurate this is given that Panasonic can't meet demand.

She said in very clear terms (who knows how valid) that the next shipment was due July 15th.

Of course that didn't stop me from placing my order at Henry's also, who said they were expecting 25 cameras on July 1.

What number is that? I've dialed it and it gives me a fax tone then a dial tone... ?

Also the area code is for Washington state... ?
 
Hope that J&R thing is true for people who ordered there....I probably won't put an order in there, still waiting to hear on Henry's. Shopatron screwed me so now I am looking around, still have that order though.
