Henrys in Canada still says whenever I call that they dont know when their next shipment is. E-Steve do you remember the name of the person you talked to?
 
I don't know if this has anything to do with the miracle of my June 10th Panasonic Direct order arriving yesterday, but it might help some of ya'll.

When I spoke to one of the Panasonic customer service representatives on the day after the June 22nd shipment and he told me he had no idea when the next shipment was coming in, I mentioned that I really needed the camera by July 2nd. He said something about placing a note on my order that I had called in asking about the availability. Maybe this is what did it? However, it sounds like a lot of people have called in saying they needed the camera by a certain date. I have no idea, but I figured I would throw this info out there anyway.

Ugh. See since I got shoppatroned I can't try things like that. I try to give shopatron crap they tell me to go talk to Panasonic, I try to talk to Panasonic, they can't even access my order cause it's in shopatron's database.
 
When i called yesterday and got the runaround about my June 10th order, the rep claimed complete ignorance to how it was even possible joenami got his camera. However, it is possible that you (joenami) was first on the backorder queue. I was told last week that those of us who ordered on the 10th were the very first on the back-order queue (there were 6 people in front of me) for the next delivery. If Panasonic "found" a camera, it doesn't suprise me that someone who ordered on the 10th got it, based upon what I was told last week by the rep who took the time to look at the order list while I was on the phone.

My condolences to the shopatroned folks as this does nothing to ease your pain...

Picked up my GH1 this morning in Montreal! The U.S. customs didn't even charge me duty for it. Now I'm back in Burlington using it in a promo video I'm working on - that's why I was so freakin' anxious to get my hands on one of these cameras!!!

L. L. Lozeau on St-Hubert Street. I knew I'd be in Burlington, VT for a shoot (I live in Colorado), so I googled "Montreal camera shops." L. L. Lozeau was the first one I contacted, and they just happened to have ONE left in stock, so they held it for me. This all happened on Tuesday of this week. I flew to Burlington on Wednesday. Woke up at 6am this morning and was at L. L. Lozeau door by the time they opened at 8am.

At the border - I just decided to be straight up with them. I actually gave the guy my L. L. Lozeau receipt! They had to look through a bunch of books trying to figure out how much duty to charge me. It took about 15 minutes. In the end, though, the top dog came up to me and said, "Well whatta ya know! No duty charge on camera equipment!"

They also have the EP-1 at Lozeau... pretty cool camera, but not that much smaller than my GH1

Whatta, whad ya... funny anglos...
 
I leave to Alaska on Saturday without a camera I thought I would have by now.

Let them know how horrible the customer service at Panny Direct has been. Amazon has an excuse and so do dealers but Panasonic itself SHOULD know how many cameras are being made and how many are ordered and give good estimates. This is a Japanese company with billions a year in sales... who is doing their forecasting? Madoff??
 
I can't even tell you all how amazingly disappointed I am in Panasonic for botching this release so badly in the States. I've been on pre-order at Adorama since May 16, and still no word on when this camera might be coming in.

I'm usually a Canon guy, this is the first Panasonic camera that I've ever bought. For all the BS we have to go through to get it, this is truly unacceptable. I think from now on, when Panasonic says they're going to release a camera on "X" date, I'm just gonna add at least 6 months to it. By that point something better by someone else will be out anyway.

That is nothing new from Panasonic. Well, I guess if you are a Canon guy you wouldn't have suspected it! Pretty frustrating.
 
I havent read this entire thread, but has anyone dealt w/ J&R in NY? I just pre-ordered the GH1 today there, they insist they will have them in stock on the 15th on July.

I'm certainly not holding my breath though--sorry to hear of everyone else's turmoil.

..sadly will be selling the DVX100B, my first love...look for a yard sale coming soon to the marketplace

He did sucker me into a battery...I told him that the Panasonic firmware locks out 3rd party batteries, but he said if it doesn't work they'll refund.

The whole thing feels shady, and I think I may have made a poor choice, but it's on my American Express, and I've had good luck with them fighting sellers in the past, if needed.

Anyway, I'll be the guinea pig and let you know how it goes. Even if I have to go through some runaround with them (Which seems to be their game) I still might get my camera faster than those waiting on Shopatron orders? We'll see.

I have some bullshit to report. I called today, Friday and asked about it... seeing if I could get a tracking number. Well they told me it was still backordered>WTF IS THIAT @#@J#?@J#?@K#J?@!J#?@#J!?K@#J?!@#J?!?!J?!?!?!

THEN THEY TELL ME I AM LYING TO THEM ABOUT HAVING BEEN TOLD THAT I WAS TOLD IT WAS SHIPPED ON WEDS. WTF? F PANASONIC. F THEM. F THEM.








i will still use the camera though.
 
Oh and that was the day i was gonna order from henry's but since they told me it shipped already i didn't and now i called henry's and their out of stock and i am sol

too bad i need it for my work and told my employers that it was coming on monday
 
No manual controls for video, video time limit, not as many video modes, total fail as a video camera. Yeah cancel your GH1 preorder and get an EP-1, move us all up in line :) :P
