GH13 GH1 overheating

I had a similar problem once last year but didn't think about the heat.

Last Sat I had 2 weddings, both outside full sun around 30 deg C. two identical cameras, identical hack settings, identical cards (Sandisk extreme 32Gb) both cameras were unattended capturing a wide shot with the LCD open - both cameras failed to span over to the next clip.

When checked both cameras had gone into power save mode and no clip was registered as being recorded.

Camera 1 - the operator changed the card out for a Panasonic gold class 10 and the camera operated fine for the reception (with clip spanning)
Camera 2 - I left the original card in and the camera operated fine (with clip spanning)

the missing clips are nowhere to be seen on the card but CardRecovery was able to recover the footage up until the camera attempted to span over to the next clip.

** after trying the cards out on different readers, the files are there! - they were not registering in camera at the time of the problem.

buggered if I know but I'm leaning heavily on the overheating theory

so was this caused by hoverheating or just card write failure when spanning? sounds like card write failure at the file size limit point. if the files were less then i would assume possible overheating. hack settings?

I believe it is both together - I cannot tell the actual file size as CardRecovery splits the files into lots of smaller files (bit of a pain but it's the only utility that works on a regular basis I'll try some others.

It can't be the hack settings because the camera & card operated well later on that day (out of direct sunlight)

I suppose it could be overheating but I think it is more likely a write failure which is very common. The black cams do pick up a lot of heat from sun, just putting the cam in some kind of white case would lower the temps if you think it is a factor.

bring out the old ice cream magpie hats lol. you could always try and replicate the scenario and stick the cam out in 30+deg heat again and see if it fails.

that's exactly what I intend to test but it's pissing down and cold at the moment
