GH1 GH1 now $499 pd

Hello Vitaliy

I'm very tempted for the GH2 (ntsc) at half the price, plus low light, plus ETC.... do you think I'm going wrong ?

thanks

^I bought one locally for $200 yesterday in like-new condition. The catch? It's non-hackable. But at that price, I really don't care. I'm not shooting for dinero; only for fun. I've seen some awesome movies from the S95, G12, unhackable GH1's, and other inferior cameras to get the idea that it's mainly 80-90% about vision and content.

Or maybe I'm simply trying to justify this purchase by convincing myself that I can live without a hackable GH1. :)

Ok I get it. So I ordered GH1 and GH2. Those unhackable GH1 units have pros. The weak body strap issue and FPN banding issue were mitigated. I can carry two bodies. A pancake on one, a 14-42 or 50mm on the other.

It's still worth checking bricks 'n mortar retail outlets for new stock of GH1s of early production (that's what I did a few weeks back). You can personally inspect the box (or camera) for the serial number to see if it's a hackable version (check in the firmware hack subforum for details). Some smaller online sellers (usually shops with an online presence) may even check the number for you, and if they get it wrong you can send it back under your online buying rights. Could be some real bargains lurking out there.

A cheap GH13 may not have the new features of the GH2, but it's still a viable workhorse able to produce high quality footage:

This is so frustrating. I'm trying to decide if I want to spend almost $700.00 for a hacked used GH1 or only spend $425.00 for a brand new locked GH1. I know the hacked video is much better but at that price I might be better off just waiting to get a GH2.

now when you click on the original link , it shows a bundle price of 425 , but when you add it to cart , it returns to 499.95 - and the facebook fan store doesn´t show any addtocart button - any idea how to get that extra 75 buck discount anyone ?

Hmm. Wrote a reply and the sever (or something) froze and it didn't take. Anyway, for kicks I added the bundle to clicked add to cart. I got a screen saying it was verifying "Please wait a moment while we confirm the price and availability of the item(s) in your cart... " and then it showed up in my cart as $375 -- $595 less $220. I'm not EPP eligible so I have no idea why the drop. It might have jumped to $425 or something had I checked out though. Interesting though.

After a few failed attempts at buying a hackable used GH1 on Ebay I have decided to go ahead and buy the GH1 from the Panasonic website with this special deal. I figure I already have an awesome Panasonic HMC40 video camera and I typically prefer to shoot 720p anyway so even a unhacked GH1 should give me pretty darn good results. Besides I told my wife I mainly wanted a great pro stills camera and seriously at $375.00 this is a steal for such a great stills camera with the lens. I'm sure even the 1080i/p mode will work well for me. I plan on mostly using it for interview type work which will be locked down with a good portion of the background out of focus.

I do have hopes that perhaps at some point in the future this camera will be able to be hacked once again.

I would have preferred to get a GH2 but getting a camera for $375.00 compared to $1000.00 just seemed like the right thing to do. Plus in terms of stills I don't think the GH2 would have been all that much better anyway. Besides I think the lens alone usually costs that much so now at a later point I can buy a body only GH2 or wait for the GH3.

At least now I don't have to worry about making my HMC40 feel useless.

I still have not received a confirmation email from Panasonic for my order which makes me a bit nervous because their website was very buggy. I did print my receipt so at least I have that.
